Default Health Insurance through United

Hi yall, coming from the military so I'm not super smart on this. How is health insurance through United? Do you have a number or choices for plans and insurance providers?

# of choices, yes
Insurance providers are somewhat dictated by the area you are based/live. The insurance providers themselves are just contractors/administrators, like Humana is to Tricare.

Yes.

Takes awhile to get paperwork, but it's covered day 1. IDK like ... your kids gets his appendix out at 1am and you start at 9am day 1 ... but there's no waiting period.

Excellent. Thank you. That’s my main concern. I have three young kids whose favorite pastime is testing daddy’s health insurance. I just want to make sure I’m covered when one of them decides that bungee jumping off the roof using a rubber band is a good idea.

Yes. Also assuming you're at an airline now, you have 60 days after separation to RETROACTIVELY purchase coverage back to your separation date.

What are the retired military folks usually doing? I’ve heard keep Tricare select, then use United for supplemental, dental, and vision?

Tricare prime and just get United dental and vision if you want.

I use United for dental and vision, pretty good plans and not too pricey. I use Tricare select for literally all other health care, no supplemental. In my mid 40’s, wife and two young kids. I probably spend <2k per year total for all of it and we get really good care.

Let me know if you have any questions.
