Social media?!

Really?! An ALPA email telling us and to tell our friends and family to change our social media profiles to the provided contract now pics.......sure, I'll tell my neighbor who works 12 hour days to change his profile so I can make $400/hr.

What is ALPA doing? It's like they just enjoying planning all these "picket" events, and outrage emails... playing to the crowd. They need to get their heads out of the clouds, stop trying for a moon shot contract, and get it done.

Done with lanyards, bag tags, and canceling all ALPA PAC contributions.

From your very short post history, I highly doubt you were doing any of those things in the first place.

Sounds like yes to 67 was also yes to tumi.

Nice guess. Wrong.

There's a difference in definition between a doubt and an assumption.

I get your frustration. I hope you reconsider your decision to stop backing the PAC, wearing the lanyard, and hanging the tag.

The OP also has to remember that public sympathy isn’t the main goal of social media information and the good ‘ole picket. While it may tug at the heart strings of some, that is an ancillary byproduct to the main goal - public fear of a strike and legally impacting the company’s bottom line.

You’re right, your minimum wage neighbor isn’t going to pitty you and your desired $400/hr, but if he fears that UAL pilots could strike and interrupt travel plans, he isn’t likely to book that family vacation travel to Mickeyland on United. THAT is something management will understand.

Either way, the public responses of “Oh those poor pilots! I’m going to support their cause and not fly United next month.” and “Those rich greedy a** pilots could strike any day now. I’m sure has heck not going to book my travel on United until this is settled!” both accomplish the same goal.

Good correction. My apologies.
Yes. Frustration is an understatement. Mediation would never go in our favor. Walking away from mediation would not get us any friends in Congress/WH. We will NEVER be allowed to strike. Our leverage is limited, since as pilots we are all greedy and can’t help but pick up open time/PP, CCO extensions, etc, establishing a status quo that ties our hands during negotiations. Not getting to a TA until 2024 that would likely be Delta/American +$1 in total contract value is not a great negotiating strategy…IMHO.

Hopefully we will have a better update from the MEC soon.

Fly safe out there.

Now if only you can convince your congressional representative to pay you $400/hr for just two more years because you’ve earned it.

If you've paid attention at all, which obviously you haven't, Delta, Alaska, and AA had all their pilots do the same thing on social media. Guess who has, and who is about to have, a contract before us? You're embarrassed to tell your family and friends the company you work for hasn't given you new pay or work rules for coming up now on 5 years, while SK takes a $6 million bonus? Even if age 67 happens hopefully you're long gone before it.
