I wouldn’t be so quick to write it off. The ARJ21 (DC-9 with winglets/new engines) has 100+ frames in service in China/Asia and a fairly solid order book from airlines in the region.

(engines are from the US and the wing from Antonov, so I’m not sure how “Chinese” it is)
