Strike
So much for all the nay-sayers who said that this administration would never let us go on strike. The massive backlash from their intervention against the rail workers has put this administration back on the sidelines where they belong. Good to see workers with the fortitude to strike.

Ummm, you do realize that UAW is NOT subject to the railway labor act and can pretty much do whatever they want? That has nothing whatsoever to do with the price of tea in china. Biden would have to call out the army to force those guys to stay on the job (not that it would be remotely legal)
Since we're referencing CNN... https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/07/busin...eat/index.html I'd suggest you do some light reading on labor law and the RLA, it's not good for you or your shop to have such a gross misconception about how it all works for us. |

That said, I support the UAW strike and hope they achieve their goals for their members. The battery manufacturer clause is the one I hope they don’t cave on. |

I guess this is what a gang rape feels like. After the first couple posts, I bet he is inured to the ridicule.
Is it that rewarding to be the sloppy 8th post? Although there is no parallel between RLA and UAW regarding strikes and the .gov, it all starts with the willingness to strike to achieve your objective. Why else take strike authorization votes if you are in a union. At least the UAW workers put their money where their mouth is as opposed to RLA employees with a strike vote knowing that it will never cost them a paycheck.(recently, with too big to fail) because they know they won't be allowed to strike. If nothing else, the UAW strike it shows management of all stripes, that strikes can happen and are usually costly to both sides. Many times, it's just lost revenue to the company and lost wages to the employee that will never be recouped. |

If he had simply asked WHY they get to strike, somebody would have cheerfully answered the question. But instead he went off half-cocked. Hopefully he's an isolated case.

Did commerce come to a stop today? Did hundreds of thousands of people get stranded? No. The effect of the UAW strike will be minimal. The Big 3 automakers will ship a few less units and their revenue will be a little less. Big deal. The world will go on.
A major airline strike would cripple commerce and the economy. You saw how bad it was when Southwest melted down. That was only a percentage of their flights, and only for a couple days. Imagine all the flights being cancelled if one of the big 3 for many days or weeks… That is why the RLA exists. |
Rickair, no I thought your post(the first to respond) was apt and set Tesla's ignorance straight WRT any parallel between the UAW and RLA and his politics Tesla was way off base. The 2-5 posts were funny, then it was like a blanket party and (maybe it's the woman trapped inside of my man's body), but I started to feel a little sorry for Tesla's knuckle-headed ideas( I probably should have also kicked him while he was down)
I never said, insinuated nor implied that UAL, AA, DAL were spineless. I was merely pointing out that the UAW are WAY more vested in a strike vote because it might actually happen(compared to RLA employee). That took guts and I was simply acknowledging it, not besmirching the pilots unions. So, most of Tesla's post I scoff at, but also, I think 1 sentence had merit...."Good to see workers with the fortitude to strike." Even though a different industry and dynamic, the UAW strike it helps raise the bar(hopefully) on how far managements can push employees before they say , "Enough!". Hopefully, this is a calculated high speed train wreck that comes to a quick conclusion. If is protracted, there might be serious repercussion to the economy. |
