$330
The October 31st class had several new hires take Captain bids. After 500 hours in type they will go to Captain’s school. The first year pay scale for narrow-body Captain is $330/ hour. Fun times!

And they will start getting that captain pay at 350 hours! Minimum of 150 hours as an FO getting captain pay. Plus they will still need to be off probation at the one year mark to go to upgrade. The reduced probation hasn’t started yet.

I remember being criticized for upgrading early with 12,000 hours (6000 PIC turbine) and 6 type ratings. Times have changed!

You’re going to be junior the first couple of years in whatever seat you bid so bidding Captain at least pays you for the weekend work. After a couple of years you can bid to WB fo and get paid while having some seniority. Year one FO pays $116 regardless of equipment. Year one Captain almost triples that…

You don’t stay junior very long in a NB FO seat. Most categories you can hold a line within a month or two, and be as much as 20-30% by two years. A CA seat will be on weekend reserve basically that whole 2 years. It’s a HUGE difference in money, but it’s also a big QOL difference. To each their own… |

So, that which all of us old dudes experienced throughout our career does not have much relevance to what the new hires are experiencing today. Would I imagine that they will be on reserve for the full two years? yes I would, but I wouldn't put any money on it. |
