DEN 737
 
I have a CJO and will likely get a class date in early May. Currently at Southwest in DEN. I’m curious what 73 life is like in DEN at UA (trip mix, days off, etc). Both on the captain and FO side. I would consider 73 CA if available in class, because getting back to Denver is the most important thing to me. How bad would it be to be at the bottom in DEN as a CA? Any info is much appreciated.

48 unfilled Captain vacancies on the 737 in DEN on the vacancy award that just was awarded today.

Not including those 48, there are approximately 460 line pilots with awards to DEN 737 Cap. About 100 of them are still on Probration so they can't go to Captain school yet. Many of the others are already in school, but not done yet.

For February there are approximately 300 Captains actually on the line in DEN 737. Number 240ish was the junior pilot that was gauranteed a line. He is senioriy 9800ish out of 17000, so slightly better than 60% system seniority to be guaranteed a line. The junior pilot that actually got a line was 260 numberish in DEN 737 Cap list(senior folks bidding reserve?) That pilot is almost 11000 in the system, so a little less than 70% system seniority. That junior lineholder got an 87 hour line with 15 days off. A total of 5 trips (2-4days, 2-3days, 1-2day), 2 of them with allnighters.

So, you can see that DEN is definitely a growth location. Big plans for DEN according to Kirby and thus far he is following through.

If you were to take the Captain bid you would likely be on reserve for a long time, but living local makes reserve a much more palitable option. ( I live in ORD and have spent years on reserve)

These threads always make me chuckle. “How bad would it be [to be a captain at United Airlines]?”

Should’ve asked it at the interview. Your foots’ already out the door. It would seem you already know the answer.

Would someone at UAL mind posting this same info for SFO? At least the unfilled vacancies from today would be great.

This is the most detailed info I’ve seen on something like this, and it’s a huge help to those of us not yet on property. Thanks in advance!

SFO had 57 unfilled 737 CA and 2 unfilled 320 CA on this latest vacancy. I’m not going to look up the junior trips on my phone, though. :)

Vacancy that just closed had 250 as the min/max for SFO737CA. So it looks like they want to build it to 250 or so crews.

True, no disagreement there. Just highlighting that at this moment in time, Crew Resources' desires don't match reality. Between the unfilled vacancies and folks still in training, it looks like the category is currently only staffed at about 65% of their goal.
