SFO Flying/Living

May be relocating to the Bay area for spouses job. Any SFO pilots who made the move to California willing to provide insights: How's the flying(currently 73 FO), cost of living/quality of life hit upon relocating(I know it's coming...nothing in California seems cheap), good suburbs/areas to checkout?

Interested in any info you think might be useful to consider. Thanks in advance.

Do you have kids?

Where does spouse need to live?

SFO WB flying is the most efficient in the system. 500+ 777 FO's there and you can pretty easily work single digit days/month.

No kids. Her office would be in the area around Oracle Park. However, she'd only have to be in the office two to three days per week.

WB was my thought, also. Are there still vacancies in SFO? Seems like the WB's have been getting filled for the most part.

The SFO 777 flying is the best flying in the system in my opinon. high paying trips and if you dont commute easy to get some of 26-27 hour 3 day asia trips. My rental units in the city are averaging around 3500 a month so not to crazy. (looks like i have a vacancy coming up if you are interested) I would stay away from the east bay...the traffic can be chaos on the bay bridge depending on when you need to be at work or get done. Far less traffic coming across the GGB from marin and sonoma. Further north you go cheaper it gets.

2-3 days a week is a no mans land where you aren't commuting every day but it's not infrequent either. Rent for a year probably makes sense.

The 777FO vacancies have been sparse lately but the base isn't really senior. Should come quickly.

You should be able to get a decent place on the west side of the bay for about $2.5m-3m. How many millions do you have to spend? Need more info.

HA. No millions to spend.

Definitely would be renting. Thanks for the replies. Did you relocate to California? If so, how do you like it?

Thanks for the info; really helps. Feel free to PM the rental info.

Married a California girl and now live in Santa Rosa, I'm from the midwest. Several pilots live up here. 1.5 hours to airport, no traffic, with traffic 2.5 hours. Or you can take the airporter bus. Rents are a bit cheaper up here. Anywhere north of the Golden Gate Bridge is great living IMO. I did it as the main bread winner for years 737FO, but wife came with a house LOL.
