Leave DL for UA?

Hi there, I’ve been at DL coming on a year & a half now with approx. 1,500 #’s beneath me living in base at 26 yr old.
Just got a call for the Hogan, but no CJO currently.
I like the plans over at UA for growth (the aircraft orders alone look like UA is poised to truly become 20k+ in the near future, DL or AA is nowhere near that #) & intl. presence, and the obvious seniority climb and would be interested in moving to Houston if I made the jump. If given a class date in late mid-late 25’, would it be crazy to jump ship?
Is NB Captain or WB FO in Houston obtainable within the first year or so? I’m looking at another 2 years for 350/330 FO at DL, or 2-3 years for NB Captain on 320/73N in base; and to be 50% up the list on yr 16. Would UA be much diff?
I’m happy living in base where I’m at but open to moving if I needed, would this be a viable scenario or crazy to give up where I’m at?

I feel very fortunate to be in this position, I am trying to provide ample details to paint an accurate picture. Thank you for any advice!!

I wouldn't recommend making a lateral move based on "planned" growth at UAL. You've already got 1500 behind you at 26 years old. Consider yourself incredibly lucky to be in that position at your age. IMO, stay put at DAL, continue to build that seniority and enjoy a very lucrative career.

Thank you for the input Smails, I share the same judgement regarding planned growth, but the sound of the growth UA has planned does sound enticing.
Thank you again for the sound advice!

No brainer if you want to fly heavy jets your whole career and go all over

I absolutely want to, though it’s fair to say you can do that with any of the big 3. With the 350 only being 2 years away by time I’m onboarded at UA, it’ll be 1 year away with the new 350-1000 coming in 26’.
Tho, I’d imagine I’d climb the WB ladder quicker at UA, though imagine Houston WB runs senior than any base, so idk

UAL without a doubt in your case. Good luck.

This is an easy one, absolutely NOT. You’re 26 you’ll be an A350 captain for as long as you want. With 39 years of flying ahead of you, relax. There is zero need to rush anything including leaving a major with 1500 behind you. You’ll have your time in whatever seat and plane you want. This is such a classic mentality right now of thinking you are missing out on something when in reality you are not. Very typical for any career for people in their 20s right now. You’re in this for the long haul not 2025 or 2026 heck you have the 2020s, 30, 40s, 50s, and part of the 2060s. Don’t make decisions on stuff in the next 2-3 years. It does not matter…

!

NO No you would not be crazy. It would however involve unecesary risk in my opinion.

That being said ....You are so young that you could go to UAL, decide you made the worng call and go bak to Delta and still retire a Multi Millionaire...................but it might be like 5 Million as opposed to like 8 or 7.......

Again with your age....Wide Body Captain is attainable both places. I suppose if you prefer Japan and Australia over Korea and Chile...um then maybe there is a difference...but unless your like Rick Steeves or something I think any diference would be negligable that far up the food chain.

Where there is a difference is the domeciles. Remember with that many days off........most of your time will be spent at home. So thats a question specific to you and those around you and I encourage you to seek answers and input outisde of the pilot community.

I love where I live (EWR) well atleast I love that my family loves it............but I can tell you most people I work with would NOT.

The only way that move would make sense if you absolutely had to live in a UA hub. IMO the best case scenario if you move is you break even with where you would have been at Delta. Worst case scenario you move yourself 2000 spots closer to the furlough line. For what? Slightly different WB flying that youre going to get anyways? You're better off staying put, making more money for less work and if you really want the int'l travel just go as a passenger.

Thank you! You’re right, it’s hard not to think about greener grass, but I am very happy and grateful for my current job!
