787 Drivers

For our United 787 drivers....any recommendations on guides or training apps for the 787?

Looking to get a head start on learning the plane.

Thx

If you work here, you will know where to go and know if ya don’t then they will provide you with material you need when it’s time.

Been a while since I went to a full transition course, but back in the day, the stopover store in IAH had good study guides/systems cliff notes for every fleet. TK mainliner had them too. YMMV

Start with the 787 Qualification Course overview (Training > Qualification). The first part of the course is 787 systems with CBTs and systems knowledge validation. You can start those CBTs 30 days prior and use the questions in the 787 Systems Guide to make sure you've got it for the validation. Then the Preflight Flow & QRC (Training > Train Guides/Other) along with the normals section of the FM for learning your flows.

The qual cause doesn't appear to be rushed, but if coming off the 777 and doing the differences course the only significant hurdle is the systems validation that is on day 5 vice day 8 in the qual course.

I wouldn't bother buying non-United guides as it isn't necessary and can make the process tougher IMO.

Disclaimer: My info is 4 years old.

If youre coming from any other Boeing, it’s the same box. If the 756 or triple, it’s largely the same. If coming from the 737 you’ll be overwhelmed by how little work you have to do by comparison.

Airbus, Open climb/descent = FLCH, NAV = LNAV. Box goes to a point not from one. Otherwise, it’s just another jet.

Otherwise just wait until the training is loaded to your iPad. You dont get credit for doing anything more than 30 days in advance and you’ll have to repeat it anyway.

Yes, I would just put the flight manual on your iPad & start there.

Best thing you can do is complete the CBTs ahead of time. That way you can focus on training on not clicking through slides. I wouldn't do anything else. Very straight forward course.

You know it’s interesting, I can see why someone coming from Boeing uses such phraseology, but people who have Airbus logic calibrated as their primary intuition……don’t really see it like that. However intercepting an airway is like 7 pushes plus navaid letters, I doubt that is the case for Boeing.
