While I sympathize with your plight the facts are that even if we did hire off the street, you'd be junior to the UAL furloughees as they return after the merger is concluded. These guys were active UAL Pilots previously and have recall rights that exceed your pool ones. I do not disagree with you, they should be senior to all new hires. I just hope i don't lose my opportunity to get on property even if it means being at the bottom of the list for years as UAL furloughees return. |

As Luv pointed out earlier, CAL's MEC has stated verbatim that SCOPE is NOT up for sale. Regardless what UAL's Ms. Mikells says publicly, this topic is not on the table to be negotiated away. We should expect to hear nothing publicly from our MEC's.....after all, we do not negotiate publicly as Mgt see's fit. The above was stated "black/white" late this past May by Jay Pierce (as well as the LEC's that were present) in Houston's the Town Hall meeting. The CAL Pilot Group, Neg. Committee, LEC's, and MEC are acutely aware of what SCOPE degregations has done to mainline pilot positions, industry pay, and general QOL for ALL of us in this industry. Since the May announcement, I have heard time and again, SCOPE is one topic that will NOT bend. Apologize for the drift.....back to CAL's impending hiring. |

I would rather suggest that we again call our respective LEC members and reiterate the position that further relaxation scope is non negotiable and 70 seat flying at the very least needs to be transitioned back to the mainline. Fritz Flying with a Company Check-airmen presently.....he has echo'ed much of what this thread has been saying about future CAL hiring. The 'anticipated' CAL bid due out within the next 30 days will have more vacancies even after all 147 CAL recalls have been offered, thus resulting in the need for CAL to dust off the desk's in the Pilot Hiring Department. From what he's heard, after all CAL recalls have been offered to the 147 CAL furlough's, there will be UAL prefs (some or ALL, was not specific) mixed in batch when things spool up and interview invites go out. At this point, just a rumor.....but none the less.....good news in the right direction. |
Even if that bid shows recalls and hiring, I wouldn't dust off the resume just yet. Have they even made phone calls to the 15 or 16 recalls from the last bid yet? The possible recalls and newhires from this potential bid don't have to occur until next summer.

Also this is very speculative but just how many of the 1400 UAL furloughed pilots would accept a recall? I know former UAL guys/gals at UPS, Captains at JetBlue, F9, Continental, Govt Contractors, Finance, etc etc. They have been out for nearly 10 years. Honestly, would they get maybe 500 back?
Supposedly took CAL 80 phone calls to get 15 guys back on this last bid, granted they get one refusal before they have to accept if I remember correctly. |

I haven't looked at the seniority list to verify the 80 to get 15, just heard it online from several guys so maybe it's a tall tale. Although few airline jobs have been available the past few years, many formerly deemed substandard jobs are a huge step up from junior narrowbody reserve at CAL.

Especially since a bypass or Military Leave of Absence will have no negative effect in the seniority list integration. Bypass recall till they go through the list once. Let those who really need a job go back to sit reserve. Once they've gone through the list once, take the second call, and return as a "senior" reserve or maybe a junior line holder if the hiring really starts in earnest. Just saying. |
