Realistic Recall for UAL 07/08 Hires

I'm a early 08 UAL furloughee. Some 1350 some odd guys ahead of me.

I've pretty much settled on at best case a call back in late 2014 based on the combined retirements.

I was wondering if anyone wants to share their viewpoints on a timeline for recall for guys like us.

Perhaps there are some positive scenarios we can consider that might be helpful.

Thanks. Dv

I believe you will be back next year.

While I wouldn't be as optimistic.... anything is possible.

If there is a buyout from the top (and that is a very big if) - Then within a year or so is distinctly possible. :)

Skypest,

I was a 2007 new hire and I think we will be back in 1-2 years if all the stars align properly. I think mgt is in a hurry to get the Joint Contract signed so all the pigs at the feeding trough can get paid. If a Joint Contract can be put in place, I've been told it will generate about 600-700 recalls immediately due to the work rule improvements on the CAL side. Its anybody's guess if CAL will start hiring in advance of this. Theres no way to predict how many UAL furloughs will accept employment from CAL under the LOA. Personally, I am inclined to go to CAL if it is offered. I don't have a clue what life would be like on rsv in EWR on the 737, but I'd venture to say its no worse than what I'm doing now. I'd like to get the clock ticking on my longevity again. I think the 2nd year pay is around $52 and it goes to $75 in the 3rd year. Its only gonna get better with the new contract. I'd say 20% higher at a minimum and I wouldn't be surprised to see 30% improvements.

I would guess many of the UAL furloughs will stand on the sidelines and watch to see what happens. Many of the 1400 are back in the military or were lucky to find stable jobs elsewhere. I think there will be many bypasses till the ink dries on a contract.

I just pray that the MEC gets the SCOPE right. I don't see the 70 seaters being eliminated right away but I would love to see them die on the vine as the contracts expire.

Time shall tell.

Dying on the vine is too generous in my opinion :D but to each his own.

I just posted the Transition Job Security Protections from the TA in another thread here. You might want to check out the 7-B (ii) regarding offers of employment. I don't know how long one can "stand on the sidelines".

Good luck to you and all the furloughed brothers and sisters!

Work rule restoration alone will bring back all furloughees that want to come back. Scope restoration and the new narrow body flying that WILL be added (#1 issue of board of directors - "...cannot be world's leading airline flying domestically in a contracted regional jet...") will bring brand new hires in 2011.

One thing that should be noted for any UAL pilot on furlough who gets hired at CAL....if the merger doesn't happen for some reason, and the TA is terminated, we can stay at CAL, but after two months, our pay would revert to our seniority at CAL on their pay scale.

SKMarz 08-01-2010 11:07 AM

As far as standing on the sidelines, it looks like we get two chances at CAL (once in seniority order and one more with 30 days notice to CAL of our request). As far as recalls at UAL, we can bypass for up to 10 years without penalty. Many of us have been burned more than once and are cautious. For some, there might be tough decisions to be made, but hopefully the opportunities are at least there.

My interpretation of that was that you could turn down the offer to go to CAL and just wait for your recall from UAL. Turning down the position at CAL should not affect your recall rights at UAL. Once the lists are combined, they will have to publish what the new rules are for furlough recalls (for those still out).

Oncea57cap, where do you get your information? It sounds too optimistic to me but I hope you are right.
