Question: Who has the RIGHT to turn down any pilot for a jumpseat because they are not a member of ALPA or any union or because they are not wearing a certain pin?

Answer: Nobody.

This point is NOT arguable.....simple as that. ALPA's ability to coerce and intimidate is GONE!

Jumpseat denial

I always wear my 30 ALPA pin on my tie while working. If I travel for personal reasons I never carry my uniform tie. So I won't get the jumpseat ?
But even having said that...
The Captain has the final say in who gets to ride or who doesn't

Uh....the Captain. FAR 121.547. I never said you had to be a member of ALPA. I'll let union or non union ride anytime. Skywest as an example is not union. UPS is IPA. Southwest is SWAPA. They are all welcome anytime. But if you are CAL or United pilot during this time in our history better be a member in good standing and have an ALPA pin or you ain't getting a seat on my JS.

....simple as that!

I think you know what I mean. You have your wallet? You have an ALPA card? You're on the MIGS list?

So just to be clear. You won't give a ride to a UPS guy? Or are you talking about CAL guys needing a pin or a card?

I'm talking about pilots at CAL who are members in bad standing or have a history of screwing our own. What the hell does UPS/IPA have to do with the CAL/United merger?

You must deny a lot of jumpseats then. I continue to be amazed by the number of slick ties at CAL. If I had to guess, I'd say close to 40%. My UAL buddies are shocked when I tell them this. (and it's not just scabs - sometimes they wear more ALPA ornaments than anyone). I've offered pins to guys I fly with and they look at me like I'm speaking in tongues. Is there some history (aside from '83) that I'm missing?

I might have 20 a year total. I haven't denied anyone in 2 years. Last one was a guy who had a history at CAL of denying CALX pilots so I returned the favor. He and 12 others are on my personal list for screwing our own. If more did this we would not have as many company saviors out there.

Really, I've lost my ALPA pin numerous times. It likes to fall off my tie. Does that mean I'll never get the jumpseat without it?

It's on now, but I hope I don't lose it, I'll turn into a scab!

What many of us fail to remember is - The jumpseat is only available to us because of ALPA.

Part of a unions job is to look out for their own. If you are not a card carrying member, why should I look out for you? As a union member.

6) Can you "mil vacation" drop? What is it worth?

Mil leave is like a silver bullet for those in the Military. Drop all your crappy unproductive time and early morning departures AND most important; always have holidays off. Don't worry, your fellow pilot reserve, will always cover it. If management questions your mil leave, just have you buddy, the squadron Commander, who also works for an airline, cut you a set of orders or run interference for you when asked any questions by your chief pilot or flight manager.

At least that's how it works at UAL
