Confused about Continental Recalls
Hello Continental Pilots,
I am a Nov. 1999 hired at UAL. I have been furloughed twice and currently working as a Bilingual Customer Service Rep. for Lockhhed Martin in Indy. I am confused because I have heard that Continental had a bid that showed 16 recalls. Why haven't does recalls started and how is the recall process at Continental? I am just trying to figure out if any recalls will happen at either United or Continental before we get a JCBA. Thanks and let's hope for the best for all of us. We are DUE... CAJ |
My two cents on the last recall. Was done only for show. To date there hasn't been one furloughed Pilot contacted about a return to work date. All done for PR's sake.
Our next bid, due out within the next three weeks, is supposed to include enough vacancies to recall all of our furloughees. Anything above and beyond that will be filled in seniority order from the UAL furloughees. Recalls are never very speedy over here and I'd be surprised to see any of our guys back before November. |
Nothing is going to happen until the JCBA is signed. They are promising all sorts of things contingent upon us agreeing to sign this rushed-through contract. Why are we believing promises this time? To sign this JCBA contingent upon an October deadline will be just another failure on our part. The sense of urgency on management's part to get this done by October is extremely suspicious. We [B]cannot[B] get railroaded into a 4 year contract and miss the best opportunity we have had to restore all that has been lost.

those 16 haven't been contacted and don't have to start class until May 2011, or until a later bid reveals that they are not needed. With the 787 being delayed, again, it wouldn't shock me to see the possible recalls stay at home until at least next spring if not longer. my two cents.
Also as a side note and correct me if I'm wrong, this Aug bid is nothing but a rumor right now. Again correct me if I'm wrong, but CAL contract states 2 bids per year, haven't actually looked at the wording in a while, and 2 have already occurred so technically one doesn't need to occur for a while. |

Well I was in training for 6 weeks and this came straight from George Fox (CP)
180 (min) vacancies for 787 in August. From a check airmen, we are working with Boeing to accelerate 787 orders and slide 73 orders, that would create more vacancies and is in line with the CAL announcement of pushing 2 jets right. I'm not buying that the recall was for show, but they can always change their mind on the following bid. I don't think the delay is anything big for us, but who knows what will happen next from Boeing. I would guess that the August bid may slide right my a month, but who really knows. The only thing I can say for sure is there is nothing we can do about it except wait. If there are REALLY vacancies for hiring, I'm sure you will hear well prior to you being hired on property. Good luck. As with anything in this industry, nothing is certain. I am actually extremely happy right now staying home with my 3 kids and enjoying my weekends and nights at home. So life is pretty good. Money is very tight but love and happines are abundant. We will wait and see if the Big Bid actually comes out and they start training people. I just really hope that our JNC does a good job and we all are part of a great moment in Aviation history and we get the contract we all have sacrificed for. Here is hoping. |

We will wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks. And as far as a vote; unfortunately furloughed pilots do not get to vote. But we will have access to all the information so that we can still make our voices heard. |
