It's evident considering that they wouldn't even vote for one of their future pilots to be on the National ALPA team, but instead endorsed a pilot from Alaska. Pretty pathetic. I will tell you that I, and about 4700 CAL pilot aren't looking forward to this merger. We can see the support we're getting from our UAL "bretheren" already, and it's not looking too good.
Out of pure curiosity because I don't really follow this much, did the CAL reps support Paul Rice?

Sounds like your own, IAH reps, sold him out more than anybody else.

Sorry this has soured your mood to our marriage. Didn't ask for it either but we are going to have to work out our differences and move forward or die a slow death at the hands of mgmt.

I think we'd agree there are good and bad union reps in every organization. We've had our share of self-serving one's at United over the years for sure.

Best wishes-

KC

So how is it that the CAL MEC supported Stratton instead of one of their 'future' pilots (Rice)?

FWIW, I don't think ANY of us know the extent or details of the of the inner workings of our 'combined MECs'. I don't think you're alone -- any pilot who is (or was) looking forward to this merger needs their cranium examined.

Lighten up Francis. My disgust rest with all ALPA. That includes the UA MEC getting the IAH rep to turn. Not being high and mighty about anything. ALPA politics are ugly and if Pierce hadn't have let us see behind the curtain we never would known.

And the million dollar question. Why no love for Rice by the CAL MEC? Can't say I would vote for Rice, but if we are going to base this on homeboy's only then you guys didn't pull on your end of the rope. You can't have it both ways.

Again, we the line pilots will be the ones to make this merger work because we aren't lobbying for anything. We are along for the ride and will have to fly with one another. By the way I was against splitting the 400 pay, and voiced that to my rep. Let's focus on OUR futures and the things we have to look forward to, hating scabs, good layovers and cold drinks with hot women. Eff ALPA politics. They are all backstabbers.

Cheers,
L

You have to remember that the MAJORITY of our "slick ties" are from IAH. Walk around the terminal and you'll see more guys who "saved the company" than you can shake a stick at.

You're right though......let's make the best of it and welcome each other to the fold. Maybe we can finally make a difference.

Lambourne,

Bingo. There is enough blame to go around on both sides of this debacle. And enough "high and mighty" on both sides as well. Let's try and concentrate more on what's important to our careers and less on the crap behind the scenes at the sausage making plant. Our JCBL and the JSLI ought to be our only priorities at this point. As far as I'm concerned, a great contract will ameliorate the personal sting that many of us will perceive as a result of the SLI.

ALPA national elections are typically juvenile, ego driven power grabs. This one was nothing new, just much closer to home. As ALPA national continues to distance themselves from the concerns of Joe Six Pack mainline pilot I care less and less about what comes out of Herndon. They are marginalizing themselves.

Can't help but think if Roger Waters were to read the piece that started this thread that he'd pen something like YouTube - Animals - Pigs [Three Different Ones] (Part 1)

I'm not sure which one of you two dumbasses is worse. After seeing quotes like these, we're the ones who should be concerned about this merger. EWR presumes to speak for all 4700 former CAL pilots....and IAH flyer is cool with a small raise so that we don't hurt the company again. Keep up the good work fellas!

Were you at United in 2000?? I'm really curious. They got an industry leading raise (wasn't it 48%) and were making ridiculous amounts of money. What happened there? The company was forced to give them something they couldn't afford, and what happened?

I am not always pro union. I pay my dues and I support being a unified pilot group. But I hate it when renegade people make unreasonable demands. The fact is our quality of life is the best when the company is doing well. I want the new United to do well. We make damn good pay as major airline pilots. We don't need a 30% raise on top of that just cause. I'd rather our company pay what other companies pay for the exact same job, and let our company be competitive. When the new United does well, we will benefit.

I want a raise similar to what Delta/Northwest got. I want to be compensated well, but not out of line with our biggest competitors (Delta, American, US Air). Otherwise, this contract may last for maybe 2 years just like UAL 2000 did, and then we'll have to suffer the consequences... Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of the past are due to repeat those mistakes in the future.
