Kudos to CAL Crew Planning

I'll give a shout out to CAL Crew Planning (or maybe the kudos should go to CAL Marketing since they run the airline).

The pilot group feels so blessed in this time of economic uncertainty of the "opportunity" for Voluntary Junior Manning between the 21st and the 27th. Such charitable giving on CAL's part is making me consider bundling the company with the likes of those other worthy philanthropic individuals:

Bill Gates
Warren Buffett
Oprah Winfrey
Ted Turner
Mark Zuckerberg
(to name just a few)

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As was pointed out to me yesterday, a bid was run in May of this year showing 15 pilot recalls. The contention at the time was that the company should have recalled all the pilots on that bid in anticipation of them starting their recall training in September. However, the company only decided to recall all pilots on the August bid and training didn't even start for the first (original) recalls until November.

Here we are in December and the first recalls might just be finishing their IOE with the remainder to finish up by March. Meanwhile, there is no coverage in any base for the 737 flying as evidenced by this gracious company offer to pick up open time for 150% pay during the holiday. Chief pilots are out flying and recurrent sim training has been canceled because the pilots and instructors are needed on the line instead. This then creates problems that Training has to rectify in future months to keep everyone qualified.

Outstanding Job!!!

Remember the old saying:

"A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!"

Well said. Here's to mass CX due to lack of crews and planning fired for stupidity...
Merry Christmas!

It so sick and predictable around here. Usually when the VJM memo comes out it has some long winded excuse about unusually bad weather causing strain on staffing. This year they pretty much just said 'please come to work for the love of god!'

You would think the guy running Flight Ops would be gently pushed out the door for this level of incompetence. Nope and in fact he gets promoted to run Flight Ops at United Airlines. Got news for you Freddo, this pilot group won't bail out your bean counting paltry staffing like it pathetically has in the past...

Finished HALF of my pc yesterday. Told to come back another time for the LOE since our instructor was pulled to go fly a trip (he was NOT a happy camper about it either). Amazing.............and we're so well staffed....................

trust me whomever is in charge of manpower, will be lauded and praised.

being short staffed and paying 150% is still cheaper than bringing on new pilots----- minimal cx's trust me a few cxs for cal aint gonna mean squat.

and if you MF's would stop picking it up- it might help things

Just reading the "holiday message" from our Dir of Flt Ops and ran across this little tidbit:

"Many thanks in advance to all of you who will be flying the line on the holiday and over the even busier weekend that follows. As you know, crew reserve coverage is being kept at maximum levels for the final periods of November and December, which will make a significant contribution to our overall preparedness."

Maybe I read it wrong, but I'm not quite sure that available reserves of 0's and -1's constitute "maximum levels"........

Yes I think the same thing everytime I watch a junior man trip go. We also have lca's here that had over 50 hours in the bank going into dec. Makes me sick.
