Default Furlough "Opportunity"

To all furloughed United pilots,

There are still slots available for the next two “new hire” classes at SkyWest Airlines under the terms of LOA 03-22 “Job Opportunities for Furloughed United Pilots”. The first class will start on 25 April and the next on 30 May 2011. These are all FO positions in the CRJ at second year CRJ 700 pay. These classes will be filled in seniority order based on a furloughed pilot’s preference indicated by their submitted FCOL Preference form on file as of 18:00 CDT Wednesday, 30 March 2011. Interviews for the 25 April 2011 class will be held next week April 4th through 8th. There are several interview dates available for the 30 May 2011 class. The interviews will be held in SLC. If you are interested in an opportunity with SkyWest flying the CRJ and you have previously submitted an FCOL Preference form indicating a preference to work at SkyWest, SkyWest SJ only, “First Available” or “First Available SJ class” and have not passed on a previous offer, there is no need to submit a new FCOL Preference form, unless you wish to change your preference or contact information. If you have NOT submitted an FCOL Preference form, logon to http://ual.alpa.org, click on the “Furlough” pull down, and then on “Jobs”, scroll down the Jobs page to get to the information about LOA 03-22, click on the link titled “Online Interactive FCOL Preference form” to submit the form electronically. Once submitted you will receive an e-mail confirmation at your e-mail on file with ALPA.

Please utilize the information available on the “Jobs” page to answer most of your questions concerning LOA 03-22 and the process. Questions concerning these job offers received by e-mail or phone will be answered time permitting. If possible, discuss taking this job offer with your spouse or significant other, so if you are called with the offer you will have already made your decision

I can just hear it, "Honey, should I take this job that is really my old job, but disguised in a smaller airplane that has the same paint job, but pays less than a school teacher?" 10 years of seniority and this is what we get? I kind of appreciated the offer when it seemed like economics driving the downturn. But now that the big picture is evident, I'm basically outsourcing myself at 1/4 of the pay!!!

POUND SAND! GET THE JCBA DONE AND GET MY F-ING JOB BACK! Seriously ****ed off.

++++++++++++++++1 Here here...can't fathom interviewing for a job that was previously mine meanwhile doing it for another 50% pay cut. I know the flying community sux right now...but there's just no way. Good luck to those who still believe in the career that is no more...I’m sure the company is seconds away from agreeing with ALPA for a “just” JCBA.

That super sucks. And furloughforlife, I'm not flaming you, I been there, I done that. The furlough thing that is. But your profile says "Position: taken by a CRJ FO at 17k/yr"

Nope, the job was negotiated away by a CA making 150k+ a year. Not taken, by ANYBODY. Whether it was the "heavies for scope" in the 90's, the relaxation on contract 2000, the give in round 1, or the backroom 70 seat giveaway in round 2. It was given away, NOT taken.

You were not there...or perhaps not even out of High School, but section 1113 of the US bankruptcy code assured that the 70 seat scope was TAKEN, not given. It's just like Russian Roulette. You can't win. But if it makes you feel better about flying that barbie jet for half pay...just keep saying it.

You guys should go to the job interview and tell the person doing the interview your salary requirement is 150K a year. Or at least have fun with it and screw with them.

On a side note.....a CAL Flight attendent tops out at $52 an hour.......52 an hour. Thats more than just about any regional FO. Now lets compare responsibilities. YHGTBKM I was an ignorant regional FO once so i'm guilty as charged, but come on guys stand up. $52 an hour.....

OK, fair enough, 'My bad" on the last one.

Do you have a rational explanation on why scope was given away in the 90's and on contract 2000?

And FYI, I was well out of highschool when that all went down, with a personal vested interest. But that's neither here nor there. But if it makes you feel better to sling personal attacks to try to help yourself feel better or present a stronger argument, have at it. I can't stop you.

Sorry about that. I was ****ed about something else. The 1997 RJ vote was obviously a mistake. DAL and AMR already had them, so we mistakenly followed suit. But that agreement and contract 2000 tied the number of RJs to mainline a/c AND capped them at 50 seats. It was the bankruptcy that blew the doors off. Now there is no tie to mainline a/c, only block hours, and of course the 70 seats came with the bankruptcy "negotiations" as well.

So, let me get this straight......we have to INTERVIEW for this job? Not that I would ever take it, but seriously? A United Airlines Pilot with 7,000+ hours, several type ratings, etc. Interviewing for a job I held 15+ years ago? That's awesome. Maybe I'll get to fly with a Captain young enough to be my son, all while qualifying for food stamps to feed my family of 5. Sorry, had to get that off my chest, I feel better now.

Love the avatar Furloughed. I feel the same about both it and your sentiment. I was former Eastern Express, United Express and American Eagle before United.
