UAL Capt in DEN (December-2010)

I said "individuals". That means the Capt and the CSR. You seem hung up on the Capt. Not me.

He's a great guy for certain. Wish I could clone him.
He also has the uniqueness of being one of those that the age 65 date saved....his birthday is Dec 13th. He was talking about what he planned on doing in retirement. This was an early flight in the Fall before the outcome was known.
The 65 debate aside, I was glad to have a trip with him the following January and give him a little sh*t asking him why he didn't retire and get out of my seat....:O)
He just said he needed to keep a watch on guys like me and that I needed much more mentoring..........
Those are the guys that made working at UAL bearable during some very hard times. I have issues with the 65 decision but not with him personally.
I told him that I hoped he had bought a lottery ticket because luck like his doesn't last forever. He laughed.

I think it was 5 minutes prior to push, CSR came down to ask to close the door. Capt asked how many open seats, CSR said 10 or so. Capt asked about SAs. CSR replied no time. Capt reached up as the CSR turned away, turned off FAC 1, ECAM ding. Capt said oops MX problem, now you have time. I'm going to the jetbridge to call SAMC. Load the SAs and I'll let you know when we're ready to go. We pushed 5 late....that would still be DOT on time. BTW, we were 15 under flight time due to winds to begin with and got in early.....
Now, those are the mentors I liked at UAL. Capt didn't get into a ****ing contest with the CSR. Just controlled the situation.
BTW, thought the CSR was going to stroke out as the Capt walked past him to the jetbridge phone........priceless!

I think we are in agreement more than we are not. I totally agree with the above way to handle and issue. But I don't feel physical assault by either the pilot or CSR is ever called fro.

Agreed. I personally would gain way more satisfaction handling a CSR issue using the method I described in my example. That is a sign of a true Capt IMO.
