Default Questions about 787s at UAL/CAL

I realize the 787 could be delayed and delayed into the future. When they do arrive, will the CAL and the UAL pilots be able to jointly bid them (based on a formula)? Or, do the early 787s belong to one of the two carriers and thus allow for only one pilot group initially? I thought CAL was the earlier of the two to order the 787...

How soon (if current 787 scheduling is on track) might we see the 787s flying in the CAL/UAL colors? This year? How many on order total (confirmed) for the combined carrier?

Bill,

I can only answer a small part of your questions. The flying will be separate until we have a joint contract, seniority list integrated and a single operating certificate. Only then will there be any cross bidding between the two groups.

UAL Guys can plan on being fenced out of the 787 until the SLI agreement allows them to fly the CAL ordered 787s. History of other integrations indicate it may be a very long time before UAL pilots get to fly CAL 787s.

Don't forget UAL has 787s (and Airbuses) ordered in the future and that may change the color of the integration a little, but probably not a lot.

CAL pilots have already bid the 787 and the sim is being installed as we speak in IAH. They belong to CAL until the merger and all its details are figured out.

How soon can the CAL guys bid the 747? (sorry couldn't resist)

I just took the Everett tour a few weeks ago. Airframe #37 was at the end of the line.

The 787 won't be seen in the "new" livery passenger service in 2011. The last projected schedule is our first airplanes being delivered early next year with revenue service by summer 2012.

Would that be cross-bidding or just UAL ? By that time it would be one company one list and all of OUR airplanes.

I think this "fence" thing might not be such a hot Idea. Tilton is the one that doesn't like the 747 but But I was over at Boeing to take a friend to lunch and Delta Had an Entire Van of suits get dropped off in front of the building. So my take is? If DELTA were to Buy the 747-8?? United is getting them, Because We're Not getting that "
White Elephant" A380. If Lufthy has Any good success with them? United will get 20-30 themselves.. All this "Mine and Yours" Stuff is Why you guys are Not going to get what you need or DESERVE You look and ant like a bunch of Fingers instead of a FIST!

Fences are not about mine and yours but more about protections and stability. If we had an all 757 fleet and they had all 777's, I would expect them to fence us out of the 777's. It's only fair.

How is it you see a handful of Delta employees in Sea and deduce they are buying the -800?

Finally, CAL mgt has been on record saying the 747 is too large for our route structure and they cannot consistently fill the airplane.
