UA Vacancy Bid
 

In the last vacancy bid there seemed to be a mass exodus of fairly senior 777 FOs out of SFO, (into LAX 777 and SFO 400 mostly); which was then backfilled by relatively junior FOs.

Can anyone shed any light on why so many bid out?

Perhaps they'd gotten all the dual they could stand? Particularly from the Marvins ;)

The other bids have better flying!

Any possibility of recalls from this or is it all still on the CAL side?

IMHO, we won’t see any recalls to the PMUA side without the JCBA settled and perhaps even the ISL. Every pilot that accepts the CAL offer is eligible for a UA recall and pilots returning to UA would cause disruptions on the CAL side at probably the worst possible time.

UCH has painted themselves into a corner with UA staffing and now it could become a self-fulfilling situation: shrink flying as pilots retire to prevent recalls and thus disrupt CAL.

They moved a couple of 777 airplanes out of SFO to LAX. Some guys chased the airplane while others decided to stay in base. At least that is what I was told.

Well, you know, according to Smisek's last on-board video introduction, UCH is well-versed in the painting department these days. :rolleyes:

Good point. I think aircraft painting (i.e. writing checks to the low bidder) is one of the few core competencies of UCH.

You're giving them too much credit given I've seen. Planes with peeling paint with what seemingly is a new paint job. This was the blue scheme with the giant tulip several years ago.

Now, if you're just stating that a core competency of UA is them writing a check to the lowest bidder, without regard to quality or even value, I would agree.

They've executed well on this new painting paradigm and progressively optimize branding models while seamlessly missing opportunities to coordinate effective customer service. :rolleyes:
