More of an estimation based upon 2172 and the 1000 from Continental. I figure the difference is those who will not return. It's not a hard number by any stretch, but if we have at least 2000, then we have more than half of the number of pilots that voted on the last contract.

I'm too tired to determine if you're kidding or not. These were Captains. And I don't think such a thing exists as 'apprentice' wings, but apologies if I am mistaken.

Actually the last United pilot I talked to said that they were the half wing to remind people that we have people on furlough.

The best thing about the halfwing was the free beer I got from the "C"aptains I flew with!

In the heydey-being a halfwinger at United was a wonderful thing. I was warmly welcomed and seldom bought a meal or a beer on layovers. Though I had previous airline experience both regional and major - a right seat on the shuttle was a great place to be.
My hat is off to those who provided great mentoring and collegiality. Sorry to say I will probably never wear that uniform again - the world has shifted. |

I've seen full-wings worn upside-down, too.
