THey ratified their contract today. UCH will be cutting a $63M check for the signing bonus ($11.5K x 5500 mechanics). And up to $75K per early out volunteer. Now the CAL and UAL mechs must negotiate a JCBA. At least UCH is finally dusting off the checkbook.

UA mechanics ratify agreement
UA mechanics represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) ratified a new labor agreement on Dec. 29.

The new agreement covers approximately 5,500 UA mechanics. The company and the IBT will soon commence negotiations for a joint collective bargaining agreement for mechanics at both the UA and CO subsidiaries. CO mechanics represented by the IBT ratified their collective bargaining agreement in November 2010.

“This is another important step, which benefits our co-workers and contributes to the future success of United,” said Technical Operations SVP Jim Keenan. “We now turn our attention to a joint agreement for all United and Continental mechanics and are committed to reaching an agreement that is fair to the company and fair to our employees.”

Kind of makes you wonder why ALPA's Negotiatiors didn't do the same thing.

First we have a terrible T&PA that has one sided expiration provisions ... that was not even presented to the pilot group for an explanation OR input before the ratification.

Secondly, the terrible T&PA prohibits both MEC's from saying "alright Management, you guys are dragging your feet on a JCBA ... we want to forget the Joint Negotiations and go back to our individual (CAL & UAL) Sec 6 negotiations and maybe get an earlier release for just one pilot group.

Thirdly, the Negotiators want to engage the company on band aids to the POS T&PA instead of taking some short term pain for long term gain.
Who negotiated this lousy T&PA ... oh yea ... the new UAL-MEC Chairman. Who voted for the POS T&PA ... oh yeah the new UAL-MEC Vice Chairman.

Had ALPA not agreed to the T&PA provision that prohibits individual Section 6 negotiations, we could have negotiatied at least two things:
CAL could have negotiated a short term Sec 6 with some improved work rules (closer to UAL's) and some permanent Profit Sharing provisions. UAL could have negotiated a short term Sec 6 with pay pairity with CAL and some domicile protections.

Then we could have worked on a JCBA JUST LIKE the IBT did for the mechanics. ALPA Negotiators and both MEC's were short sighted with their ratification of a T&PA with expirations. That's not hind sight either ... many people were angry that they ratified a T&PA with short term protections WITHOUT pilot input.

Ok yeah ... the MEC said it didn't matter BECAUSE we were going to have a JCBA before the T&PA expired ... we are doomed with this new UAL MEC leadership.

Maybe if you go and rub Mother Morse on the fannie and talk nice to her she'll agree to come back and lead us to a contract that everybody can be happy with? Oh yeah she had two years to do that and failed. But it was her lazy pilots at fault that and the mean guys on the MEC never Mother's fault according to her.

I agree with you in that Heppner and Perry scare the pee out of me too. But the previous proved to be less than efficient wouldn't you say?

I'm sure you where not elected to those positions because you were to busy counting your money from the WALLACH days - maybe you should run for MEC Chair to get back to the glory days.

It's good to see you are respectful to the ladies on the forum - If you were talking about my wife, I'd break both your arms and legs - Since you are talking about one of our lady pilots, I'll just kick you A$$! You must be CAL, I know no UAL guy that would be that disrespectable to a lady pilot.

Totally uncalled for - Why don't you post your name so our lady pilots can give you a big salute or maybe a small boot. You should take down the Avatar, you don't do the man justice.

Agree with the spin. They are actually starting the "spin cycle" with the gate/customer service agents as well since the NMB announced yesterday that those employees will start the process of a representational election.

The company even quotes their own Fly to Win Handbook in regards to furlough protection as if it is a legally binding contract with the employees. CLUE: The Fly to Win Handbook is a company document that can be changed as they see fit.

More selective "spinning" for the agents just as they do with the other employee groups on their negotiations lack of update site.

Apparantly the ORD mechs weren't in favor of this.....now maintenance is going real slow in ORD........

From a CAL guy's perspective, would you really be able to see any difference in ORD? ;)
