These work rules seem to be the stuff of magic. Every time I hear them they continue to get better. Can we have a comparison posted on this board so that those who don't work at UAL can see just how green the grass is on the other side?

True but I want to see some apples to apples comparisons here. I.E., reserves at CAL get 12 days off a month with 8 being immovable/rollable. What say UAL?

UAL domestic and international reserves both get 12 days off per month. International reserve have 4 holy days that can't be moved. Domestic reserve days are inviolate. There are many other work rules, you really need to read the contract. You will not find a UAL pilot sleeping in a plane when the company can't find a hotel. You will have a bunk or a first class seat for rest on augmented international flights. You will deadhead in First or Business when deadheading to fly a leg when the deadhead is over 3 (I think) hours, Econ Plus if deadhead to a layover or to home base. First class to and from PC if available when you book it and it always has been for me as you typically book several weeks out from your PC. We have very strong hotel committee oversight of our hotels. Aside from work rules we have, in the past, had a strong ALPA safety and training committee give and take with UAL. We don't take checks in a FBS (yet). We have worked hard and given much to retain the work rules we have and to maintain the input that ALPA has with the company. Sad to see Smileton come into our house with a sledge hammer and trash the place.

Intl rsv gets 6 consecutive holy days (not 4). The rest are moveable under certain circumstances. 12 hard days for domestic (none moveable). After a rsv assignment, we get 14 hours block to block (12:45 free of duty) in domicile (domestic). I have heard it is 9 hrs at CAL. That must be pretty rough in EWR. Dom rsv can't fly more than 89 credit hours. That includes actual flt time, 1/2 dh, vac drops (5 hrs per rsv day), training, and sick leave. I have hit the cap with barely 70 hours actual.

89 hours of pay for 70 hours of flying, for a reserve no less. 14 hours block to block. Sounds almost strange compared to he FARs we live under. First class DH to your PC. It almost sounds dignity and respect. "Domestic reserve days are inviolate." Wow.

Exactly. Which is why L-UAL pilots will not even think of going an inch backwards on these. Hard won (hardly "won", just negotiated) battles.

One of the reasons the lack of said work rules makes the L-CAL job offer so unsavory to so many of my fellow furloughees and myself.

Exactly. This is the first real chance in decades for CAL to move up to a real contract with real protections and workrules that have been grieved and settled long ago. Unfortunately there are many of my fellow CAL pilots who think there isn't all that much difference between CAL's contract and a real one and continue to cling to the idea that's it's just not that bad. 29 hours of soft time pay? For a reserve? ALL reserve days off are immovable? UCH must just laugh out loud when they see that--then start worrying that those days may be numbered, and I certainly hope they are. Please, don't give an inch.

This one will have an impact...Domestic reserve get 12 days off ( can not move) unless the pilot agrees. One calendar day off in Seven AT HOME, not at some out station ( MEX etc.).
