UAL HCFR training. No pay for reserves.
Be aware folks that the required HCFR training pays an additional 5 hours to line holders. If you are a reserve however it will give you 5 hours credit towards your guarantee but does not pay any credit over guarantee. In other words folks if you are like the majority of UAL reserves who have can't break guarantee you are giving these SOB's five hours of your time free of charge.
Yet another sweet deal delivered to you by UCH management. BTW The excuse that was given was that Bo Ellis really tried hard to get us paid but he just couldn't pull it off. I say enough is enough. This is required training don't give it away for free. |

Or another way to look into it is...
A line holding 767 captain walks in the door and makes an additional $800 for the month a line holding F/O is making an additional $550. A reserve.......Snake eyes. |
Just forget to do it and go NQ. If you don't have the nerve to take a hit for one trip then I doubt you hav e strength to carry a picket sign.

Welcome to CAL! They take it away and then say prove you're supposed to have it. Soon you, too, will be using your smartphone to take a photo of the OOOI times because you'll need it for the pay claim when they start shorting you a minute here, a minute there. And it isn't only about the money; it's about a slow, long-term effort to grind away your will to care.

While I see your point, I don't see how it is really any different than being a reserve getting paid guarantee and getting a trip assignment. You get assigned a trip and you get credit towards guarantee. If you did it on a day off then I could see getting it added to your guarantee.
The problem we have at CAL is that there have been numerous occasions where reserve pilots are in recurrent ground school and scheduling pulls them out of class to go fly. Then the whole maddening process starts over trying to schedule a ground school class again and hoping not to get pulled again. Really bad for guys who are due in the summer. |

They stuck it in the middle of a stretch of days off for me. Where do they stick it in a reserve's schedule? I bet it ain't on a day off. Besides, as I've said many times, you can't get senior without getting old. Problem is, I get old faster than I get senior these days. Reserve is 100 times better than it was years ago. TW |
Here's my plan... If it's obvious I'm way under 70 hrs credit for the month I won't be in this class. If I'm over 70 hrs...I will go to class. If, like most months, I end up with about 60 hrs., I will "modify" my sked so that I am over 70 hrs. They WILL pay me 5 hrs to take this class. 4 1/2 years on reserve has taught me well.:D
