You turn your back on a crime....and pretend it isn't happening...yeah ALPA is innocent. How about a contract 2000 that had no furlough protection. I guess ALPA had nothing to do with that. And when did it become acceptable to fly 90 hr lines with pilots on the street. How about pay accrual while on furlough. Guess that went out with the '70s. What motivation does UAL have to ever recall furloughed pilots when they can funnel their growth through the back door in IAD with their acquired airline avoiding payed moves and writing off other furloughed benefits. TK's days are numbered with IAD getting the 787 sims.
ALPA has done nothing for me during my past 3 UAL furloughs (and they laughed as they shut down Avolar ...a potentially great furlough haven as is Delta Elite). Now ALPA is powerless. We are ALPA. I helped bring ALPA to Mesa and have held several key union positions but times have changed. SWA is laughing at us hoping we'll never see the light, as we pound the nails into our own coffins.

Go ahead and continue to use your bloodied furloughed pilots as leverage to negotiate your weekends off because you know you don't want us back on the property and be assured there is nothing I want or need from UAL or CAL ....Offer us new hire positions at the Airline bought with 3 Billion that our furloughs helped create. I used to sit and watch the fattest pilots in the country run from gate to gate during my commutes in the early '90s at IAD. Continental pilots have been through the hell of 2 bankruptcies and they were just happy to pass their medicals. Does anyone remember the Continental that nobody wanted to fly on. They've come a long way but they can't fix UAL. If I accepted the CAL downgrade they'd probably want me to put down my 15 year ALPA pin and wear a half wing again. Well I gave my 15 year ALPA pin to a SWA Captain as a token of remembrance to why his airline is able to thrive while the ALPA carriers slowly disappear.
Never underestimate man's (er. a United pilot's) ability to rationalize.

Btw for the record both JR and VS are good guys to fly a trip with. Much better left seaters then many CAL guys senior to them. Dodging the union talk is key...
