UAL Job Fair
Anyone ever been to a FLTops job fair? Apparently UAL is going to be reviewing resumes. Just curious if anyone remembers what the mins were when they were last hiring? Thanks

For full disclosure, anyone interested in applying to the new United should understand that there are 1436 furloughed UAL pilots that still have seniority numbers and recall rights.
Some of the furloughees have accepted class dates on the CAL side, but still have recall rights (and senority numbers) on the United side. It may sound confusing, but here's the important thing to remember:
New hires at the (new) United have 1436 pilots that can elect to return to the property when the UAL side of the operation recalls. At some point in the future there will be an SLI and the furloughed UAL pilots will return to a combined company ahead of those hired in 2012 and beyond. Pilots hired to either the CAL or UAL side of the new United should be prepared to be on the bottom of the list for at least 3-4 years. Some furloughees may not return so forecast attrition based on age 65 retirements vs. returning furloughees may accelerate. Additional flying, changes in work rules, and the number of furloughees that elect to return could also create the need for additional manpower. It's important for potential new hires to understand that the new United is not a place where you'll be off reserve anytime soon.

I'm not trying to start a flame war but this is an interesting issue. As I see it, an issue presents itself where furloughees are offered recall not only once but twice and refuse recall each time. Now throw in newhires into the mix and a strong argument could be presented before a judge that newhires now trump furloughees who were offered employment and refused. Of course this doesn't have anything to do with the right to recall but rather where someone would be placed on the integrated seniority list.

That's past history so we shall see. If I were looking at a job at the new UAL, I would seriously consider the above scenario happening. Of course, there are a lot of relatively "old" guys at both UAL and CAL, so there will be movement eventually. Like mentioned above, the age 65 retirements finally starting, assumed better work rules, and *gasp* maybe some actual expansion should generate some actual movement up the seniority list.

It's almost a foregone conclusion that newhires in 2012 will be behind all pilots from L-UAL and L-CAL. It's been like that in almost every merger ever done. As an example, and I know the dates are exactly correct, but AA was hiring like crazy in early 2001 during the merger with TWA. The pilots hired at AA after the merger date (say Mar 1, 2001 but I'm not sure of the exact date) went behind everyone that was on property at AA and TWA. I think something similar happened at DAL/NWA.

For starters, not a single UA pilot has been offered recall yet. An "opportunity" at CAL is a job offer and not a recall and does not affect a pilot's furlough status at L-UAL. At all.
Secondly, for furloughed UA pilots this is not the CAL recall system but rather the UAL system and there is no "twice." UA furloughees when offered recall can accept or bypass for 10 years and return at their option anytime there is hiring if they bypass.
Third, the ALPA/UCH Transition and Process Agreement (TPA) clearly states that any new-hires will be placed below all pilots currently on both seniority lists. Hint: furloughed pilots are on the seniority list, even if they are not active.
Any pilots hired off the street will end up at the bottom of the integrated seniority list with the only variable being the number of UAL furloughees that eventually return later.
