Default Hyatt North Houston

How is this hotel? I was sort of looking forward to the Doubletree. I heard there was a good dive bar nearby. How does the Hyatt compare? Google Maps didn't show too many dining options in the area.

Not a United guy, but the Hyatt is up by Greenspoint. There isn't all that much up that way and the neighborhood isn't too great. I haven't explored it recently, though. XJT stays near there for our unscheduled layovers. There's supposedly a good cajun place right next door, but I can't remember the name.

As far as the dive bar near the Doubletree, that's Hoot County. I can tell you right now, you're lucky that you're going there. I'll never be back. I was just down there for training with XJT and it's a total ripoff. I went after a sim with my partner. We each had 4 or so cocktails (over a several hour period). $73 was the bill for each of us! I don't know if she over charged or double charged or what, but I can tell you, I'll never give them my business again.

You must have been over charged. It is cheap cheap cheap compared to the hotel bars in the area. Of course, I rarely order mixed drinks there. Beer is cheap.

Your right down the street from "Guns-Point Mall" (Greenspoint Mall), and you have a club name "Rick's Cabaret" that's got a popular buffet right across the hwy.

Seriously, unless you have a set of wheels, there's not an abundant amount of choices in the immediate area/walking distance. If you venture out on foot, I'd be careful walking solo after dark, there's a reason they call that Mall by it's surrogate name.

If they're putting your entire class up there, good chance someone's got a car. With that being the case, lots of choices North/South off I-45 for food/watering.

BTW....Not sure if your a Sushi fan, if so, there's a place with a good "happy hour"/Sushi called Ichiban. It's on the same side of Loop 8 as the Hotel, down towards the mall in a strip-shopping center.

Well, sounds like I'll be staying there starting Oct 23rd. I'd bring my car, but I can't afford the gas. I got a Suburban, so hoping someone will have a car then.

Pilotgolfer,
The only person I would let roam around the Greenspoint mall area is Smalsak. It's pretty rough around that area.

I'll join the chorus and say don't go out after dark. It's a BAD neighborhood. Probably reasonably okay during the daytime, but I wouldn't dare leave the hotel on foot after the sun goes down.

Thank you for the replies. I will try not to get shot until my insurance is in place. I wonder if the hotels on JFK were full or is this place a dollar cheaper per night? 8 weeks is a long time to be dodging bullets.
