No reason to be nervous. I'm flying on the CAL side. I go to work do my job and go home. I don't go out with any CAL crew members , because I don't trust them. I don't comment on the contract or SLI, just say I've been busy with my kids and haven't stayed current on stuff. I've had some mouthy Capts (2), that wanted to start an argument about the SLI, I refused to get into it. Most CAL crew members think that CAL is the crown jewel of aviation, I actually feel sorry fir them, cause its a crap hole. But then again, aviation pretty much sucks anymore.
Just watch what you say at work, you don't know who's a scab (many wear pins), FAs love CAL and get pi$$ed if you think it isn't the greatest. They manage by force here and they hire weak personalities on the Cal side that will take the beatings.

1. CAL sucks

3. CAL pilots suck

WHAT A CROCK.
Lorenzo's moonies always spouted off:
"We saved this airline."
"If you weren't here, what else would you be doing."
"I get paid plenty for what they ask of me."
and My personal favorites,
"You're living a pretty good lifestyle for a CO-PILOT!!!!"
"If you're not happy here, why don't you just quit."
Contract '95 saw ZERO help from this crowd of spineless low self esteem bozos, yet we secured a CBA in spite of them. After contract '97 they would even make eye contact in the terminal. They were all happy to spend the raises that they did nothing to earn too. Here we go again. We're going to have to drag them with us.

Hey Otto,
You forgot the training sucked. With that said, all the instructors nice, most capt I fly with are good guys as are the FAs.
What is shocking, is they get crapped on and don't care. FAs are threatened with termination if they call in sick, so they work sick. Capt don't care about coming off a redeye, driving 30 mins to a hotel(passing a dozen on the way) and showing back up at 6pm for a transcon. Putting in a long duty day with no crew meal and just not eating for the entire day. Having a 20 year old scheduler treat you like crap and threaten you. Having a scab manager tell you you need sensitivity training. Trying to get time off for a funeral, told no, call in sick for it and get called in the office. Having the Contract repeatedly violated, nobody cares including CAL ALPA. Having a redcoat threaten to write you up because your not ready to board before you even have a chance to sit in your seat. Having crew Sched change your trip, never notify you and you Capts says " that's just the airlines ", have Sched roll you into days off even though there are other pilots available, when ask why, they say "because we can". And on and on and on.
CAL is a very sloppy, poorly managed, low quality, cheap "regional style" operation. Just the way it is.
The UAL I was hired at was a dream. Fact is, UAL is gone, it's all CAL now, too bad.

Not true. We do care and unbeknownst to most ual pilots we are sick of this ****. How about we do what the ual pilots have done for the last decade. We could bend over and allow 2100+ pilots to hit the street. We could try to save the retirement for the senior folks only to have it taken away. We could sell the junior pilots down the road and throw them under the bus for money for the senior pilots again only to see them furloughed again and entire fleet parked. We could keep 1400+ furloughs on the street and not give two ****s about them and then have another airline hire them. We could offer said employment to all furloughed ual pilots only to have it thrown in our faces time and time again cause it wasn't the ual way.
Ual is and was and antiquated dinosaur of an airline with bloated staffing, inefficient flying, poor quality from the aircraft to the uniforms to the paint job and finally to the the attitude that each employee brings to the workplace. Your manuals and pubs are childish and only show how little each one of you actually know about the aircraft you fly and the job you perform. God if only ual was gone.....

At this point in the game, might want to be a little more careful what you wish for...

Why? It's becoming more and more obvious here that you want no part of this so why should we still sign up for this dance? We have tried to do this the right way and change the ****hole we live in but this is becoming a one way street. You want what you had and you have no qualm doing anything you have to to get it. You screw your own pilots and it's not enough so now you want to screw an entire airline. Ranks right up there with the scab mentality....
Okay, so I missed the part where we "signed up" for this "dance"... truth is you, I, or any of the other pilots here did NOT make this choice to merge, but for better and worse our CEO's, BOD, and share holders did.
When you say "we" tried to do "this" the "right way", it raises some questions...
Who exactly is the "we" and what actions have they done that could possibly be called "right"?
It was MANAGEMENT and MANAGEMENT ALONE, that fully directed this merger. The result of their efforts are anything but "the right way" unless you are measuring that in excessive executive compensation. Everything else has been nothing short of a disaster.
There are those that will be wishing "UAL was gone", but they don't work here. We are in this together. From here on out, UAL includes you and I unless we allow our jobs to be outsourced, or down sized for another painful merger.
Now who was it that wants to screw "an entire airline"?
