Signing bonus
 

Does anyone know when we might expect the first check for the signing bonus? I've looked on the unitedpilotaggreement website and I get the blastmails, but I haven't seen anything regarding when it would be paid. Has anybody heard anything?

I think it said "at company discretion" or "if feasible". So in other words, June.

Depends. UAL is going to get 40% before the end of the year. CAL likely won't see a dime until late Jan. This is due to the very different methodologies of how each union chose to divvy up the money. See LOA 24. UAL is more of a bonus while CAL is a partial retro. Retro is based on earnings, some of which include December 2012, which isn't finalized at CAL until 8 Jan. Then the union has to look back to Jan 1, 2009, to determine precise earnings for each individual and submit to the company which has to then load these numbers to cut the check.

CAL's method distributes the money proportionally based on each dollar earned. UAL's method has to with a comparison to DAL payrates which apparently can be accomplished immediately.

The exact opposite is true.

CAL has nothing to do with retro owed, it's more like a bonus based on how much you flew and how many months you were available. If CAL were retro-like like the UAL agreement, CAL 737 CAs would have seen a lot less and junior FOs on the B scale would have seen a lot more.

The UAL money is retro based on assuming they would have gotten exactly DL type rates over the years they were negotiating. Obviously not full retro though.

Okay, that makes sense. I figured that since there was math involved that it might take awhile.

Thanks. The answer to the question is the same though. UAL gets theirs now in a lower tax year both in terms of W2 earnings and possible significant change in tax rates (fiscal cliff), while CAL pilots will get it in a higher tax year.

I think al is 40% of the first portion by the end of this year.

Thanks. And zero% of any portion is what CAL pilots get by the end of the year. Ain't it grand.

E. For the $250M Amount, a Payment Date will occur no later than thirty (30) days after the later of the following: 1) the effective date of the Agreement, and 2) the date ALPA provides written authorization to the Company pursuant to the requirements of the ALPA Policy which will include a list of the pilots and the dollar amounts (of the $250M Amount) to be paid to or on behalf of pilots on the list.
F. For the $150M Amount, a Payment Date will occur no later than thirty (30) days after the later of the following: 1) the SLI Date, and 2) the date ALPA provides written authorization to the Company pursuant to the requirements of the ALPA Policy which will include a list of the pilots and the dollar amounts (of the $150M Amount) to be paid to or on behalf of pilots on the list

The effective date now that it was signed yesterday is Dec 1, 2012. so....That's no later than Jan 1 provided ALPA gives the company the list of who's naughty and who's nice:
