CAL/UAL hiring info

I am sure it is obvious to most but is this due to returning pilots? Wouldn't the company assume a certain number would sit it out between now and 2018?
Thanks.

I'm surprised they aren't hiring people into a pool at least. Seems like uncertain numbers ahead as far as how many people are coming back, and the smart thing to do would be to have a pool with candidates ready to go in 30 days. But what do I know?

They are trying to make due with furloughees filing the CAL job offers(now that JCBA is settled) until SLI. Then they will recall everyone. Then they will hire off the street. The only question now is will enough furloughees take the CAL offer to fill classes until SLI.

That is not the CAL way. They cost out various scenarios that look at numerous financial risk factors, an assistant VP picks the cheapest one so that if any of the risk factors materialize (which it always does), then they're short of pilots. They get through by abusing reserves, VJM, IJM, cancel CRAF, then pull a rabbit out if the hat just when it's about to fail ("we have a TA!" 4 months before they really do). Assistant VP gets promoted, pilots whine, union licks its wounds, repeat.

Today's water cooler training center update:
Interviewing in March-April time frame, CAL recruiters at job fairs starting this month. Go to the Women in Aviation conference, recruiters will be more engaged and lines not as long.
Disclaimer: training center rumors are usually no better than any other
