One Jumpseat available on all next gen airplanes. The -500's have 2. Effective Jan. 1, if you are a L-UAL or L-CAL pilot you can not be weight restricted from the jumpseat. I don't know why that doesn't apply to all Jumpseaters, but that's what the contract says.

thanks.
so the contract says they have to retrofit the old 75 with 2 j/s
why not require the same for the 73?

old 75's are being parked anyways.

Retro fit? Man, thanks expensive. Way cheaper for them to guarantee the second seat in the back. Which is preferable to:
1) getting your foot/ankle smashed as the PIC slides back
2) sitting sideways in aforementioned seat during cruise

That is a HUGE gain in this contract.

How many times are mainline aircraft weight restricted? What would have been a huge gain if express was included, I have been left behind quite bit because if weight restriction on RJ's.

With all the pad calculated into performance data the weight restriction limit for one jumpseater is negligible. Like the difference between a safe flight and crashing will be the one extra set of eyeballs in the cockpit.

It depends who the captain is. I had a CAL captain tell me his 757 from IAH-SFO was weight restricted. It wasn't, of course. Another CAL jumpseater came along and I told him. He laughed and went into the cockpit. He came back and told me this CA was an a%$#&! He got me a seat in the back.

I've had more trouble jumpseating on CAL than any other airline. UAL was second worst. I had a UAL captain deny me for being a "scab". I said, huh? I didn't even work for CAL then. I asked why I was a scab, but he couldn't answer my question. Oh well, its his seat.

FYI: you are all welcome on my jumpseat.

Back when UAL side got contract 2000, ALPA did a joint study with the company and the conclusion was that a second jump seat was cost effective. Getting more pilots to/from home without causing a Positive space seat in the back for last option commuter. So the decision was made to retro fit all UAL 737's and 757's the second jump seat. (Ferris bought those planes with 1 JS supposedly as vindictive retribution for pilots strike.)

Then backruptcy, and Glenn wouldn't spend a dime on anything, even stuff that was proven to save money, greviance was filed, still working I think. That's why only, 7 now, of UAL 757's have the second jump seat. Got that far installing it in heavy MX before Glenn put a stop to it.
