Snarge,

The red clips are a small reminder of the unity among those of the 1437 who are at L-CAL and wear them. They were intended to foster unity and mutual support WITHIN the group.

Negative attitudes about L-UAL pilots in the IAH school house? Really?
The CAL 737 IAH school house is infested with SCABS at the upper levels, and it is no surprise they would want a homogeneous appearance for all. The SCABS are easy to ID at L-UAL, and I am sure that fact is not lost on those in IAH.

Nothing wrong with a little show of unity among this group. This group has paid a bigger price for this merger than any other. On a recent flight with L-CAL Captain wearing a battle star is a perfect example of this. I am sure he wouldn't be concerned about some negative feelings at the IAH training center either.

If one accepts a position at LCAL, then accept that you are at LCAL. You are no longer at the United Airlines that hired you....

You are no longer at United where:
Your Union negotiated ESOP worked so great...
Your Union's lack of concessions led to bankruptcy...
Your Union's poor negotiations led to your retirements being stolen...
Your Union brothers and sisters sold you down the river and gave in to scope and parked all the 737s....
All of which put you where you are today.... It was not the employees of LCAL !!

So go ahead and proudly wear your useless UAL wings claiming that the company only gave you one pair. (We all are given one pair)
Continue to wear your "consolation prize of a leather jacket" (exchanged for your pensions) with pride...
Wear your red tags and segregate yourselves....

News flash: LCAL is also long gone too. All we have are UCH pilots working at temporally separate divisions. Nobody outside of UCH even knows, or cares, that there's even still a LCAL operation.

BTW, if you think that LUAL's pilots didn't approve enormous concessions prior to BK then you are truly uninformed. It turns out that pilot labor costs were only one part of the puzzle. But, if you do want to do some reading on LUAL history I'd start with management's goal for LUAL pilot labor costs prior to, and during, bankruptcy. (Hint: it wasn't FedEX or Southwest.) ;)

I figured that is why you wear them. You guys will never pay for a beer. Looking forward to flying with the 1437 again.

Unity or camaraderie? If unity... for what political purpose... ?

There were a few red clip guys that brought some attitude... so wear the the red clip if you want... as I said it isn't that big of a deal...

APC225 02-11-2013 02:38 PM

The red clip has nothing to do with being part of one group. It has everything to do with making sure no one mistakes you for bring part of another group. After hearing for years as a CAL plane taxis by, "those guys are scabs," the cognitive dissonance of now actually being a CAL pilot, albeit temporarily, has got to be odd. Add the the fact that the ALPA pin is meaningless in this regard on the CAL side and you've got a problem. My bet is the red clips will remain forever and will be worn by all LUAL pilots to make sure they're not identified with that "other group." And, given the circumstances of how Lorenzo and his allies destroyed a once proud airline, who could disagree.

I've never had anyone say a thing about my red clip, schoolhouse or otherwise.

My guess is the courage comes out whilst at the keyboard.

Agreed, so why the red tag club... why create an entity that sets one apart from the rest.... if we are UCH?

It's humorous, when crossing paths with the "red club members", they look down at your ID and if it's not red,... then no acknowledgment or a simple hello....

In the club then different story....

It's just the beginning.... wait and see.

Like I said .... 2x already... it isn't that big of a deal....

most of the guys in my class didn't wear the clip.... maybe it is more of a 2172 than 1436...... we didn't want to be associated with the cantankerous red clip guys. We were there to complete training... not be political..... maybe I'll get a real UNITEd blue clip that means I am not CAL, not a SCAB, not a 570, not a 2172... combine that with my inverted ALPA pin, everyone will know exactly where I politically stand.

Or...... maybe...

I'll just wear my ALPA pin upright, fly professionally, defend the JCBA militantly and lookout for all of my union bothers and sisters.... minus the scabs of course.... (What is more hilarious than a dead scab? A dead scab in clown suit.... :D )

You mean the ATA/AWA/Airtran/SWA one? :D

UniTedinental won't fit on a standard tag.

One Fish, Two Fish; Red Fish, Blue Fish

Red tag, green tag;
Tulip on my flight bag.....
Ribbons and talismans to tell you what I wuz?
Nah, no thanks, that's livin' in the past, cuz.
As a charter member of the double furlough surprise and impending 'all furlough time is not created equal' SLI Super Bone Club (Aug '00 hire), I sincerely congratulated the newly minted 737 Capt (2005 hire) I met at last drill weekend and told him that when I return I'll happily suit up in whatever the standard issue uniform is and cordially jerk gear for him and everyone else in strict adherence to the JCBA with no bellyaching about how this fickle b!tch mistress of a career has treated my left seat office mate du jour better than it has treated me. (Obviously, when inevitably paired with a scab, I'll less cordially but just as professionally execute my duties and add the obligatory slam-click that vermin has earned. :) )
It sucks to have been on the receiving end of so many shaftings, but it's not ya'll's fault that I got on the career escalator that promptly broke then went backwards, then forwards, then backwards again and yes, I do have the recurring dream where I'm driving around a sharp curve on a cold, rainy night and suddenly there's Glenn Tilton frozen in my headlights, but what's done is done.

To quote Lech Walesa, "It is hardly possible to build anything if frustration, bitterness, and a mood of helplessness prevail."

Only way another pilot will know anything from me about the past 13 years of rollercoasters and reamings is if the ALPA Pilot's Fund comes up in conversation. Then I'll say: "Thanks for kicking in to the fund that covered my health insurance premiums. It made a huge difference when my kid tore up his shoulder wrestling and my wife got in a car accident."

"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."
