Gum schedule
I am without a house or a wife. So, possibilities are open.
1)Can anyone shed some light on the flying in GUM and the Schedules? 2)Will the new duty and rest rules change GUM? 3)I basically want 85 hours pay and at least 10 off in a row. Can I do this on reserve or a junior line? 4)I would like to commute 3-5 times a month to the states with 20 days off. Thank you for any insight or experience. I might be dreaming.... ] note; this is not an SLI discussion or any indication of where I think I will be in the new list. :) |

Doing the GUM-"States" (The '48') commute 3-5x's in a month will wear thin pretty quick.....If your able to do that month after month after month, you're a rare breed! If your an active L-UA Pilot, you may want to look at CCS (through SkyNet) for the current PBS bid awards to get just a rough idea of what things look like as they presently stand as far as monthly line awards. |
Commuters, including reserves, can group their work days at the end of one month and the beginning of the next. This puts them on the island about 5 weeks with about 3 weeks off in between.

sorry I meant 3-4 times a year... I wish otherwise but I have not invented the time machine.

I want to make 85 hours and 8-10 days off a month. Is this possible?

Thanks APC
It seems the flying is very efficient in hours per day in GUM as a line holder. I would not mind being reserve except, since it is a small base there might not be enough flying to be picked up? |
Thanks for all the info.
How is the housing for those of us possibly interested into commuting once a month by lumping all flying and days off together? It would probably eat up every bit of that 3000$ if not more uh? |
Guam Housing
You could spend anywhere from $600-$3000 a month, depending on how you want to live, basic to luxury, and whether you want to live alone or share a place.
Many of the pilots out there live in crash pads to save on the rent. In some of the crash pads, you have your own bedroom. Others will share bedrooms, though I think this has gone away with the base allowance increase. The Chief Pilot or Base Administrator could point you in the right direction. They do advertise crash pads, apartment rentals and cars on a note board in the pilots' lounge. I would recommend staying in Agana Heights, Barrigada, Dededo, Harmon, Tamuning and Tumon which are all pretty close to the airport. Craigslist shows a fair amount of apartments, but it may be hard to determine where they are if you haven't been on the island. The google map isn't too bad in showing the main areas. |
