We must be right-sizing for another merger.

Oh snap. Now that's some funny shizzle right there.

This is the most likely way it will happen, however not all will have the seniority to jump right in where they were before the SLI.

Sorry Charlie,

The first dozen UAL ETOPS planes were domestic planes upgraded by Boeing with an ETOPS kit. All planes are upgradable. Those ETOPS kits included the second cross feed valve. It more comes down to Boeing selling us a new 900 vs. providing support for a 20 year old plane.

Don't know who started the story about the old UAL 757's can't have winglets? Many of the JFK PS planes are nose mumbers 2, 4, 8, 12, and so on, and have winglets. Nothing different about those planes.

In the end, it's just money, and Glen's refusal to spend money on anything, the bill is now due and the question is, how much do we spend vs. sell to FedEx?

I was told it was because they didn't have the hydraulic-motor generator on them. Is this not accurate? Just curious. I don't remember if that is a requirement for ETOPS.

If it were, then you couldn't fly the guppies to HI.

True statement, however it is aircraft specific. As dumb as this sounds, the 737 can use the APU in ETOPS airspace and fly 180 minute ETOPS while a 757 without the HMG cannot substitute the APU. I would much rather continue flying 757's to Hawaii no matter what age than switch to the 737 but that is not the company's plan....

Running the APU to get ETOPS. How half a$$ed is that?
Parking planes on either side going forward isn't going to benefit anyone.

half assed? It's SOP! The 737 starts the APU on the ground and runs it all the way across the pond. That is how it qualifies for ETOPS.

Yup, the APU only needs to be running during the ETOPS portion of the flight, but with start limited to FL250, it is started on the ground and shut down upon coast in (and restarted after landing). ]
