EWR Rep nominations

Nothing much happening on the Captain side, but some of the reps are lobbying hard. Tara is running again (NFW), Motch likes to throw bombs which might be a good thing, and after saying he was no longer interested in a union job a few years ago, Mark Leneski is lobbying hard again in his dream to be elected King of ALPA.

Motch has a chance. I don't know how many UAL guys will be in that council but all will likely vote for Motch. His thinking is more in line with the UAL side.

UAL pilots support MOTCH......

Maybe.......
But this is what is being said in another council.

To: The pilots of C52 and the pilots of C170

From: Captain Mike De Santis

Many of you from both Legacy United and from Legacy Continental have asked my intentions regarding the upcoming LEC elections. Simply said, although I have found my ALPA service to be extremely rewarding, I am not running. Although I humbly thank the pilots from both United and Continental for your continuing support, it is time to take some long overdue time off to recharge my batteries. With that being said, in all likelihood I have more ALPA work in my future.

I would however like to weigh in on the C5 elections since it is a hybrid election that merges two distinct but different pilot groups. Let’s face it, many of you whether from Legacy United or from Legacy Continental haven’t had much chance to work with or get to know the people running for LEC positions from the other side. By virtue of my current position as the C52 Chairman I have had a chance to engage and get to know many of the candidates. All, in my estimation, are honorable people who are willing to put service above self and work on your behalf – for that I truly thank them. The business at hand is for you to choose the best slate of LEC Officers to serve you here at home, at the MEC, and on the ALPA National BOD.

I would first like to start with an endorsement with First Officer Rob Slovitsky mainly because I have worked side by side with Rob during my entire tenure as C52 Chairman, first as my Secretary Treasurer and then as my Vice Chairman for the past 3½ years. Rob has been successful in his position due to his work ethic, clear thinking, and responsiveness to the membership. Here at home he has been an invaluable asset dealing with the myriad issues that line pilots bring to their reps – and you can be assured that if you leave him a message he will call you back as well as deal with your issue promptly. Most importantly, his interactions with the flight office have brought the proper solution time and time again. At the MEC table he has spoken eloquently, concisely, and always to the point in a clear and well thought out manner. Like Rob said in his letter, you just need to ask anyone what they think of the service that they have gotten from him as an LEC rep and whether that is from line pilots, MEC members and Officers, and even from the office types, they will tell you that the service has been exceptional. I have always known Rob to be a pilot advocate so you can be sure that no matter what Legacy company you are from that Rob will represent your interests.

As for the Captain rep position I extend my support to Legacy Continental Captain Glenn Johnson. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Glenn at picketing and social events since the merger was announced. I have found him to be a clear thinker, speaker, and a strong advocate for the pilots. His history also indicates that he is willing to find solutions but he is not afraid to draw a hard line on important issues when needed.

For the Secretary/Treasurer position I advocate for First Officer Rob Ventura. Rob is a United furloughee who is currently working at Legacy Continental. I had the opportunity to meet Rob at the ALPA Board of Directors meeting when he was the ATI First Officer rep as well as their MEC Vice Chairman. Rob’s prior ALPA experience makes him and excellent choice and in my view he would do very well in the C5 Secretary/Treasurer position. He also brings a unique perspective after having worked in both Legacy operations.

No matter whom you choose to nominate please either bring your ballot to the Nominating meeting on the 27th at the Newark Renaissance or mail it to Capt. Bill Couette at the Herndon office so that he can carry your ballot to the meeting. These elections come at a critical time and the leaders that you elect will have the important task of setting the direction for our combined pilot group as we complete the final steps of merging our airline, our MEC, and our pilot groups. The gentlemen that I have mentioned above have the skill set to deliver, and bring to the table a unique mix of Legacy Continental and Legacy United knowledge and viewpoints that will serve us well.

Fraternally,

Captain Mike De Santis

Chairman C52

Motch has no idea what being an ALPA rep is all about. He complains about it then asks for your vote. If he did get elected the learning curve would be so high. While the other reps are trying to get stuff done Motch would be complaining about things that just don't really matter..... at some point one has to man up. He's no clue what the real issues are and wants to go in house (of cards)

What Leneski brings is big ego to satiate. However, his latest email, to all of us is simply reminding pilots to "pick me". There is no discussion of the issues or an understanding of what ALL United pilots will dealing with in the next few years.

Tara? Well, Jason says Tara will preserve the history and legacy of the CAL union. Scabs and management sycophants? And good luck getting a return phone call from Tara.

Leneski is Joe Piscipo to Schwartz's Eddie Murphy.

Couple of things-
I was a SecTres of a local council so I do have "an idea what being an ALPA rep is all about".

Complain.. yupe!
I was taught a very valuable lesson from a One Star General a long time ago-
Everybody *****'s. But not everybody *****'s and offers solutions. I have always offered solutions to my complaints ever since.
I will continue to have my own personal opinions IF elected.. but IF elected, my job is to be the voice of the NYC Council 5 pilots, upwards.
Whoever the First Officer who wins this election, their job is to listen and follow the will of their pilots. It's not suppose to work the other way around (my opinion), where the Rep tells the pilots what is going to happen. [That is, when they even communicate with the pilots].

Please explain to me what "things that just don't really matter".. means?
Also, what does "man up" mean?

As I've stated before, I'm running to represent the Pilots... Comm and Unity are what I'm running on.
Also, I am asking for my fellow pilots nomination right now. I want to get on the ballot so we can have a direct election.
Put the questions out there to the candidates and see how they answer-

At the end of the day, no matter what happens, I'll sleep well. I stepped up and kept my word to run.

Just my opinion, but I see a HUGE difference between the real business of the pilots, meaning, issues between pilots (labor) and the company and pilots and govt/industry versus what you talk about on APC. That also reflects in your campaign letter.

horrido27 08-21-2013 07:36 PM

no problem..
We are ALL allowed our opinions.

I wish we had a process that allows all candidates to get up there and answer questions of the pilots.
Instead, we have a process where only 2 candidates will make the Ballot (for each position). I hope I am one of them and will do my best to present my qualities to my fellow pilots. If that's not good enough, life will go on.
It's not personal, it's business.

Again, you did not answer my question - "What doesn't matter"
What have I written about here on APC that isn't an actual pilot issue?

At the end of the day, I realize that I will never get the support of every pilot on here, on CALForums or within the Council 5 NYC Pilot Group.
But the question is, do I get enough support to be nominated.. and then earn enough support to win the election.
At that point, I will do my best to gain the support of those who didn't vote me.

I won't get into a ****ing contest with anonymous posters on APC or any other Forum where people don't identify themselves.
I have already answered a few emails, a few phone calls and a couple of meetings with pilots who are supporting other candidates. No problem.

I hope that come next Tues, I am one of two names on the Ballot. Time will tell~

Motch
