Number of pilots at each base
After the Junior pilot at each base/fleet/seat info came out, I thought it would be nice to see how many pilots were at each base/fleet/seat as well. While I could get that info for the UA side of the operation, CCS wouldn't allow me to see anything on the CAL side (guess we aren't one group yet as far as the computer goes)
So, here is what we have on the UA side of things as of the Aug Bid Month. This is only the active line guys/gals, so no instructors, management, LOA, or SL people. Equip Pos ORD LAX SFO 400 CAP 14 - 18 - 145 400 F/O 38 - 47 - 307 Equip Pos DCA ORD LAX SFO SEA 777 CAP 161 - 94 - 42 - 78 - 16 777 F/O 308 - 246- 82 - 113- 22 Equip Pos--- JFK DCA ORD IAH DEN LAX SFO SEA 757/67 CAP 69- 149 177 39 - 119 106- 87- 22 757/67 F/O 106 185 218 88 - 112 97 - 92- 21 Equip Pos---- JFK DCA ORD IAH DEN LAX SFO 319/320 CAP 46- 159- 230 48 237 109 116 319/320 F/O 40- 168- 244 54 253 117 121 The dashes don't mean anything they were just the only way I could figure out how to get things to at least somewhat line up in columns. If anyone can provide insight as to how many pilots are at each of the domiciles in each of the seats on the CAL side, it would be greatly appreciated. I figure this coupled with the jr man numbers that came out a couple of days ago, should give a slightly better picture of where you really stand. Thanks. |

Thanks.
So since this came off of a bid, is it safe to assume that bids were awarded to get them up to the minimum shown. BTW, that freakin 737 base in IAH is huge! |
It looks to me like the future SFO 737 base is going to need to grow tremendously.
right now IAH has 234 total flights (117 arrivals, 117 departures) scheduled per day on the 737 SFO has 154 total flights scheduled per day on the 737. So, SFO is already 2/3 the size of the IAH operation on the 737, and if anything the average flight out of SFO seems to be a longer stage length (many transcons and Hawaii), so it might even have more than 2/3 the hours. If IAH has 600+ Captains and F/Os on the 73, then there are going to be alot of bids coming in the future for 737 SFO. Don't know how many legacy CAL folks there are out West, but SFO has always been a junior base on the UA side due to the cost of living, so this could get very interesting |
What's up with IAH 756 needing 92 additional f/o's for min staffing on the LCAL side of the house?

As Dave's own post said, this was from the January system bid. It has no basis in actual current staffing and active pilots in October. I'll see if I can look at some staffing numbers and post something more accurate for the October bid month.
The big number I wanted to show was how many vacancies there are system wide. It was about the same for the bid in Aug. So there are a lot of places for the LUAL pilots to bid into if they would like to get some upward movement. |
Here are the numbers of what I came up with. I doubt this is the active number, esp. when I see the EWR 737 FO list. One person I know just started class last week and he is on the list. In addition I did not go through each one and exclude people on medical leaves. Our bids usually show the double bid positions due to retirements, medicals or management pilots. The staffing list in CCS only shows straight total number of pilots for that CAT/BES.
ORD 737 CA = 77, FO = 87 CLE 737 CA = 125, FO = 116 DEN 737 CA = 85, FO = 89 GUM 737 CA = 71, FO = 81 IAH 737 CA = 694, FO = 700 IAH 756 CA = 177, FO = 227 IAH 777 CA = 51, FO = 106 IAH 787 CA = 51, FO = 122 LAX 737 CA = 97, FO = 96 EWR 737 CA = 352, FO = 423 EWR 756 CA = 330, FO = 545 EWR 777 CA = 146, FO = 351 Remember this number will not match the System Bid posting Dave listed earlier. That is a projection for one year out of what the staffing will be at that time for each BES or CAT as we call it now. The current staffing will be in flux as it transitions to look like that bid. However, most of that is now out the window with the SLI and the company will update as necessary for the vacancies they expect going forward. |
