There's a captain who regularly asked for less fuel than the flight plan called for and got it. FOs objected in various ways (face to face, pro stan, avoid fly with) and captain was counseled by CP. He learned his lesson--he contacted dispatch to lighten fuel load before the flight plan was generated so the FOs wouldn't know that he had asked for less fuel. FOs eventually caught on to this as well and after a divert it may have stopped. It takes all sorts.

Craziness. I'm all for working together but I'm sorry no computer program can possibly understand that planning 14,000 over destination into Mumbai isn't wise given your nearest airports are in a country that wants to start a war with the 283 people we have on board.

Adding fuel is great but instead of allowing the company to continue to skimp on gas. How about just start taking what they give you. If you got wx enroute, holding, different alt and can't make it divert (if feasible). This happens enough times and guess what. It will get changed. You all know they won't do anything unless forced to.
