Pan Am 103

December 21, 2013 is the 25th anniversary of the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie Scotland.

How does United mark the event....??

By inaugurating B787 Service from LHR to IAH on this very day with....

UNITED 103!!!

Haven't they ever heard of Google? All you'd really have to do is type in the number 103 and the date (December 21st) to see that you might want to pick another flight number!

Why would they look up a flight number on Google from a defunct airline before assigning it? For instance, Delta operated on of Boston today on flight 11. American 11 crashed into the WTC and was operated out of Boston.

You are making a big deal out of nothing. I would never even give this issue a second thought.

Don't beat up on reCalcitrant. He is one of the good guys. He made a level headed comment. Essentially some clerk in a cubicle assigned the flight number. The clerk, I presume, is not really an "airline person" in the sense. The smart thing would be for the airline to have a list of flight numbers involved in prominent accidents. I think an IT company could handle that.

Ha! Where do we begin. "Processes are being implemented by a cross section of divisions to prevent such an occurence again." said a spokesperson for the IT company.

You'd have eliminate most numbers. It's just impractical. One post and you start calling people psychopaths?Welcome to my ignore list. Have a nice day.

Dude, one of the good guys or not, you don't appear to get it. Maybe you should also do some homework on how many flights have been destroyed by terrorist bombs, you'll find the list really isn't that long.
