Help for a retiree
I don't know if this is the best place for this but I figured it would be a good place to solicit help and opinions from United folks, especially L-CAL guys. I want to try to keep it simple since this is rather personal.
My dad retired from Continental in June of 2010. He's since become very ill and unable to care for himself. My mom is trying to gain access to his 401K to help pay for his care. I can't go into much detail because I barely understand the details, but Schwab and/or UAL are doing everything they can to deny my mom access to the money, to the point of making my mom continue to jump through hoops even though she's reached a point where they're legally obligated to allow her access to his 401K (she's been appointed his conservator). I say Schwab and/or UAL because they're both pointing fingers at each other saying it's the other that won't allow her access to the 401K, although she suspects it's more Schwab than UAL, since apparently Schwab has a reputation for this sort of thing. Anyway, I'm writing here because it's reached a point where she's considering suing both of them, and she's looking for advocates to either help with that, or to help advocate on my dad's behalf so she doesn't have to sue. This is rather open ended, since what we're looking for is sort of vague, but I know if he were still an employee the union or the chief pilot would be the ones to go to with complaints about the company jerking him around. Would either of those still be worth contacting? Are there any other places to go for help for a retiree who's getting screwed by the company? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I just emailed our retirement and insurance committee chairman and gave him the link to this thread. If he replies to me directly with anything useful to you I'll post it here. Good luck to you and your parents. |
