Travel Benefits
Can anyone share a mini breakdown of the travel benefits for United?
-are there fees for employee/spouse travel? -option for travel companion if no spouse? -buddy passes per year? (not sure what they are called at UAL) Thanks |
-Travel is free for you and your family (spouse, partner, kids and parents) is free domestically in coach. First and business has a fee associated with it if you decide to utilize it. International will have some cost because you will pay and departure tax or fee (depending where you go).
-No spouse or kids then you can pick one travel companion that gets the same benefits. -I can't remember how many buddy passes but they are plentiful to me. I never get enough takers to use them all. They aren't the best benefit unless that person has a lot of flexibility. One single bud is self-employed and has lots of cash. He travels every month and goes all over the world. Hope this helps. |
Thanks so much! Helps greatly

Do employees and their family members get complimentary or discounted access to the United Club? Just curious.

There was (don't know if it's still current) a "backdoor" where employees received a minor discount on the substantial annual fees with the higher-level United credit card that includes a United Club membership. |
Pay for a membership or get the Chase credit card. Both about $475 a year. Company just ask that you don't walk in in uniform. Customers want to feel a little elite and privileged I think and not think that the company gives this as a freebie to employees. Perception vs reality.

Way back in the day I went to buy a membership when I was a 727 Captain and they told me that I couldn't go in uniform because it made the passengers feel like we didn't pay to go in. This was in 2000 so I never bought the membership.

Is there a link or can someone post what the priority non-rev codes mean? SA3, SA5X, etc...

Normally I thought you have to be ticketed and flying that day in order to use the clubs. If you're just jump seating or using your standby perks, I'm not sure that counts.
