Outsider looking in here, but just curious, what's the latest with Sparky? How has it been doing in day to day ops, still having issues??

And while it hurts some peoples feelings here the truth of the matter is that the Guppy will never be a 757. The 757 is a lousy trans Atlantic bird and we all knew that. But the megalomaniacs at WHQ don't seem to get the big picture and are unwilling to listen to those on the front lines who know.

If you want to run an international global airline the first thing you need a is decent fleet of international global airplanes. 737's and 757's just ain't going to cut it. Jeffy needs to snap out of his regional airline mentality and he needs to do it RIGHT now or we are doomed.

United has zero intention to "run" an international airline, using its own fleet that is. Welcome to the death-star alliance.

United has access to all the heavy metal/long haul equipment it chooses to utilize, so long as it's owned/operated by a foreign alliance partner!

Yep UAL managment did a wonderful job of putting the appropriate metal on a given route for a global airline. That is clear given that 60% of the operation is on the back of RJ's from a dozen or so different 'partners'.

Intrepid,

Once again willful ignorance and pride overshadow reality. Hows the operation running right now with "your" people in charge?

Apparently and not surprisingly you have a major disconnect in understanding the difference when it comes to knowing what an operational vs business/career issue is. Even at it's very deepest bottom in BK UAL was running a better more reliable operation than what's going on right now.

Lets address some business issues that you mentioned;
Out of bankruptcy, our one to your two BTW, USAIR 1 was during the peak of the good times and consolidation was just a spark on the horizon and it was shot down by government regulators, USAIR 2 was a ploy to get the CAL merger done, and apparently it worked. Even at the lowest pay we were making about the same as you guys due to your total and complete lack of a decent contract. We lost our pension yours was frozen and was going to be taken at some point anyway, just have a look around pensions are going the way of the dinosaur, no need to thank us for your 16% B fund however we did that for you free of charge ...But that's really besides the point. Sorry to bruise your ego here but huge egos are a major part of what's wrong with the current operation. If it's broke FIX IT do not just keep doing the same thing over and over refusing to admit that there is a problem.

Now to the point.

The point is that UAL didn't have these kinds of operational problems before CAL mangament came in and screwed it up. While UAL had it's obvious issues they knew what airplanes to put on what routes and ran a very reliable international and domestic schedule. The operational problems began after El Jeffe Jeffy came in and "fixed" the operation. His operational plan of placing incapable airplanes on un doable routes in the name of frugality isn't working PERIOD even an apologist like you should be able to figure that out. And this procedure of stepping over dollars to pick up dimes is destroying our customer base and in the long run will put this company out of business.

So step back from the crack pipe open your eyes and take an un jaded look at what's really going on. The 756 and the 737's being pushed onto routes they can't handle is a 100% LCAL management problem. As are every other IT and operational failure that has occurred since the boys from Houston have taken the reins. They simply will not listen to their key people on the front lines and they refuse to acknowledge or fix these fixable problems. Jeff and his fanatical group of boot licking yes men are as poor an example of effective leadership as can be had.

Nice spin job there...

The LUAL model clearly was a loser and needed to be thrown in the garbage based on results...just look at the track record the past ten years.

Yes the LCAL management has been overwhelmed with a less-than-motivated UAL workforce and rehab of epic proportions. Yes Jeffie has no business running a company, how he got in charge of CAL is still a mystery.

The 737s, especially the 900s, make money..get used to it. I get weight restricted maybe once a year. The 787 is showing lower burn rates than expected and is probably making money hand over fist...hardly the "flop" you say.

Like Jay Leno said once:

"Despite declaring bankruptcy today, United Airlines has said it will be business as usual.....well isn't that how they got into bankruptcy in the first place??"

So 9 consecutive profitable quarters at UAL vs only 2 profitable quarters at CAL during the same period.

Well the UAL business model is still in place with the addition of a hub at IAH that we didn't have before, and we will make about $1B this year and we've been profitable every year since 2009....

And CAL doesn't exist....

Just wait till the wing cracks start making the news. It will make the battery issue seem small.

I keep hearing this from clowns like you so lets put some facts to the fiction.

The weight restrictions are on 737-900's LCAL airplanes being flown by L-CAL pilots and managed my LCAL managers this has NOTHING to do with the UAL workforce. The 756's Europe issues are on LCAL airplanes flown primarily by LCAL pilots and manged by LCAL managers this has NOTHING to do with the UAL workforce. The worst bases with the worst turn times and most mishandled bags are EWR and IAH this has NOTHING to do with the UAL workforce. Shares is an LCAL system put in place by LCAL managers this has NOTHING to do with the UAL workforce. The new crew scheduling system (Pheonix is it?) Is an LCAL system put in place by LCAL managers this has NOTHING to do with the UAL workforce. The complete and total mismanagement of crew and airframe resources once again that is an LCAL management issue. Hundreds upon hundreds of 76T F/O's sitting idle while they could all be productive in other fleets, once again complete arrogance from the LCAL side, they are going to let "attrition" take care of a problem that could be solved in year or so with legal and strategic displacements.

The above issues have NOTHING I repeat NOTHING to do with the lack of motivation of any UAL workforce. These are all mismanagement issues on a grand scale. So put the blame where the blame is due my friend. This is a management issue. It has nothing to do with LCAL or LUAL pilots or other "co-workers" and for you to say that it does shows a major lack of thought, knowledge and arrogance.

So in your twisted view are the 787 problems the fault of an unmotivated UAL workforce too? How about the lack of planning in regards to FAR 117? How about Jeffy laying off hundreds of rampers the week before Christmas?

Hoss,

All else aside, which you prefer: flying city pairs such as Ewr-Snn with a 757 that makes a profit or with a 767 that loses money and eventually the route to alliance partners? Everyone would prefer to operate bigger equipment but there IS a cost/benefit analasys that must be performed for every market. I would much rather have a high paying job flying a smaller airplane on these routes than no job at all.

The takeaway from the original post is that we should save as much as we can and keep our logbooks up to date. Remember the managerial events of recent years when, yes when, they come to us for concessions.
