Trip trade shenanigans

The ability to massage my schedule has left with my golf game.
Yet again, trying to move a trip back 1 day (still over the weekend)... 3 day for a 3 day. Seniority system denying the trade for "no coverage". I check the "reserve availability" tab...27 reserves! Thats almost twice the number previously required under our old system. Total BS. This trade will also get me a landing, precluding the need for the company to pay me 7 hrs to do a DEN loopty doo. Emailed chief, submitting another PDR and contacting rep again..... This place is a mess, but hey we will have a new contract by 2020!

I'll second that motion

No coverage until further notice I guess. I too tried to turn a four day into a three day in the middle of the week, no luck.

Welcome to United! It's been that way for LUAL for YEARS. What's more, since all Real Time Trip Trades are subject to crew desk approval, you can pretty much assume that your ONLY hope of trip trading is the same or better number of days, same start date, before about 7am the day prior to the trip, AND you'd better be senior.

For the most part coverage was always bad on weekends at CAL but you could see the coverage and know before you even got your hopes up. Usually midweek single day coverage was good enough but no longer.

oldmako 02-27-2014 07:27 AM

So let's all pitch in and help out when they're in a bind??

Could someone explain why the Pool Display screen that did show coverage under l-Cal system had to be removed. The answer provided by the Union two months ago seemed like a cop out. I understand we're technically challenged in the IT department, but to have zero transparency with regards to coverage levels is unacceptable.

So much for the "LUAL was overstaffed" theory.

When the company won't let pilots drop trips because they don't have enough manpower, or are worried about enough manpower, they aren't overstaffed.

Perhaps. But honestly I think the number could be 100 reserves available with nothing open and they wouldn't allow a drop

Of course in theory then they would need less reserves and we could drop days! :D

(I am merely kidding)

bottoms up 02-27-2014 05:13 PM

If I remember correctly weren't those reserve numbers made up arbitrarily by the company. It could have been min/1000 per day. I always thought it was BS to need 60 reserves on a Tuesday.

So your really not missing anything other than numbers and a false sense of hope.

But like wise oldmako says. Dangle that dollar and watch them line up..

I've heard that screen is still available to flight attendants.

For the lCAL types, welcome to United. The company you now work for hates you, and will do everything they can to make you unhappy.

I hope the lCAL employee/company relations win in the end, but I am not hopeful.

Not happening, that concept left the building in Brenneman's briefcase.

Probe 02-28-2014 07:57 AM

Unfortunately, I agree.

It was about the day he left wasn't it? Gordo's new phrase became " I let my manager's manage" so he could keep walking around like a rock star.

Bethune was smart enough to hire GOOD managers so he could say that and not worry about it, Smisek wouldn't know a good manager if one fell on his head- mainly because he sucks at it himself.

Larry wasn't that bad, the big change came after he left

Would really like to know why Bethene praises Jeff to this day...

Yeah, it was all in the name of the IAH cafeteria....

Gordon's Galley - tasty and reasonable

Larry's Concessions - my @ss hurt each time I ate there, but the briquet rocked

Trader Jeff's - mugged and rolled getting out of the elevator and end up in a Tijuana brothel afterwards with no recollection of how I got there. And my @ss still hurts.

Moombabeach 02-28-2014 11:36 AM

Don't forget Bethune "coincidentally" greatly increased his retirement compensation package and gained a large chunk of stock and then left right before we were forced to take concessions to OUR contract. But I'm sure this was just a coincidence right???

Gordon Bethune was given a golden parachute to leave early. He stood up at a board meeting and agreed to leave if Bonderman left. I don't think Bonderman ever thought he would do it. I wish Gordon was still here but he did a huge favor to all of us by getting rid of Bonderman and his cronies. At the time there was a huge rift between Gordon and the portion of the Board supporting Bondeman.

You can read about it here:

Because they are both members of the most elite fraternity in the world; Boardroom CEO's.
