I have over 250 Layovers in LHR. Why do they insist in putting us in these $h!t holes.

I have complained to The Union Hotel Committee, and to the Company for years. Their reply is always the same. This is what was negotiated and they have to do it. I pay a hell of a lot of Union Dues for some one to help oversee our safety during layovers, and there only concern is that it is in a good shopping area. Pathetic....

Fly Safe.

I actually like the area we stay in LHR, this could have happened in any Locations, US or foreign.

From the article:
'There is no evidence of the key being stolen and the family had deliberately left the door open overnight.

A little common sense goes a long way towards safety

Wow. Really? A 4-star hotel (Trip Advisor) on Oxford Street overlooking Hyde Park is a $hit hole? C-mon man.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for the rest of us that might like staying by Hyde Park, this is how we lose our great layovers. 1% complain to the union over and over when the other 99% of us love the layover. We have lost many great layovers over the year to the 1%.

I have suggested to the union many times that they need to come up with some way to "rate" hotels and layovers, and make it easy so we all do it. Otherwise, only the 1% get heard by the union.

Unfortunately, like the few other things I have suggested to the union, they dismissed it as me not knowing what I am talking about.............

If you're a United guy and you don't know how to walk yourself to a suitable hotel, you only have yourself to blame. If a hotel isn't conducive to getting adequate rest that will allow you to safety do your job, go find one that is. Period. Stop.

That said, I think London in general is a $hit hole. Sure there's lots of history and lots of guys like flying there, but you can have that dump, it's not my cup of tea.

Only the 1% get heard by the union because the other 99% who like whatever layovers that other complain about don't tell the company and the union they like the hotels. People are more likely to complain than they are to compliment something. Nothing says a pilot can't send a communication about something positive.

I make it a point to send a PDR or other appropriate email to the right people so they know I enjoyed a hotel, esp. when I hear of ONE person complaining about it.

I agree with your thoughts on a survey or rating system for the hotels. Would be nice to go down the list, rate and comment on each hotel I am familiar with then submit it. We do a CPO report card so why not one of these once or twice a year?
