A question for our CAL brothers
I just read a post where the author used the term "schoolhouse" several times in reference to a United training center facility. I don't care what you call the training center but I have to ask why you guys get so upset when the 737 is referred to as the Guppy and yet, you call the training facility "schoolhouse".
After all, "schoolhouse" get more questions and laughs than Guppy. What is the origin of the "schoolhouse" term for a commercial airline training center? |
I wrote schoolhouse twice...maybe that's several to you.
Dig far enough into my posts and you'll see I say guppy too. :p Don't let your head explode As far as the history, I don't know where or when school-house originated. I do know that on the old coair website, the training center link had an icon of a little red schoolhouse you could click on |

I answered your question. Good luck ever seeing me go postal. Discipline.

Had a cap go red in the face when I referred to a 900 at the time as a Guppy!
"It carries as much as a 767-200 it's not a Guppy"....... Found every chance to reference the Guppy rest of the trip.. Chairman |

To add to that, 'schoolhouse' is not a CAL only term. I know PKCola enjoys lobbing grenades, but you'll find the same word used at DAL, SWA, FDX, and more. JUST LIKE GUPPY, it isn't a derogatory term.

Don't know where TK came from originally but it's short for DENTK. Maybe one of the United historians will come up with it's logic or if it makes you feel better, you can make up your own. |

I've got friends at all those airlines and I haven't heard them say "schoolhouse" in reference to their training centers. Maybe they're just embarrassed to say "schoolhouse". |
