Purely my personal observations flying with each side. I came after the merger so the only dog I have in this hunt is unity and success. The vast majority are for team work and long term success but when guys "take sides" that's where they seem to be. That said, and I think a lot have this experience, where the CAL vs UAL attitude seems to be most pervasive in the flight attendants.

I think both sides should **** and move on.

This really isn't that hard once you've determined who the true adversary is.

I would agree. I've had LCAL FAs specifically say they don't want a JCBA.

The company is working that out. Hiring on the Black side, furloughing on the Blue. A couple of early outs, and viola...the 2 sides are getting very close to the same size. Better for voting in a Cal-like JCBA, which btw, is what I hope happens. Our FA contract is straight out of the '50s. There are manpower rules in there that we gave up in C2000. Nice to have in Never Never Land, but not realistic in the real world where non- union DAL and productive SWA are chewing at our butts.

When you furlough a lUAL FA, I believe they keep most of their benefits, including health insurance. This gets expensive really quick.
Now they offered a couple of thousand FA's an early out, and they took it. The problem is a lot of them were already furloughed or on LOA's, so it didn't reduce the rolls of active FA's that much. |
It's expensive for a reason. To prevent furloughs.

Disagree with you on that one. First, that kind of smells of the race to the bottom mentality. Second, what if it was you trying to hold onto the work rules?

As far as I can ascertain, the LUAL flight attendants can drop down to virtually nothing... but still retain full benefits and travel privileges. In a way, you and I are paying for that. I'm all for flexibility, but being able to drop your month down to near zero and still maintaining full-time type benefits strikes me as unsustainable

Yep. Sorry, but if you want to consistently contribute zero to the bottom line then you need to come off the books. That said the CAL way of 200 hours/month while moaning about being exhausted needs to go as well.

gettingbumped and all:
" In a way, you and I are paying for that. " Listen up and hear clearly; do you in any way think the FAs, PAs, middle management or any other group here at UAL think we as pilots deserve what we get? "In a way they are paying for our wages and benefits." I would stop complaining about anything the FAs have or are going to get in the next contract. They negotiated that contract, just like ALPA did, and deserve what ever it they got (or didn't get). Remember what the wise sage said, "What goes around comes around!" |

Its sad that so many of you are willing to toss others under the bus to justify your paycheck. Its a multi billion dollar operation. They can afford to pay us what we're worth. And that goes for the Flight Attendants and Mechanics too. Across the board we all earn MUCH less than our predecessors did, and they had much better work rules AND a pension. So now we all sing the idiotic low cost mantra to justify the cheesy operation. We take off with (sometimes) idiotic fuel loads and cook the pax at the gate. Meanwhile, we have some of the highest paid execs in the industry preaching "shared sacrifice" . Yet, they don't need labor to make this merger a success. KMA. |

Agreed except Execs aren't sacrificing a thing. |
