Of course. Not debating that at all. As an FO buying another FO a European dinner for 25 euro after a beer and a meal "always" is a little stretch, sorry.

My main gist was trying to figure out what the "tradition" is with these certain rules. Not slamming it, just trying to figure out where Shrek was coming from.

Like the poster said prior to me, when I was a new-hire, I was also gracious when a Capt bought me a beer, or even a meal. However, it was never mandatory with certain rules and I don't think it should be.

As you said, each to their own.

I was just pointing out that on the augmented crews...if the Captain isn't out with you, it's great if the other FO picks up the slack and treats the half winger.

You're absolutely right p4g. It's really sad to see this tradition slipping away because guys are too cheap. Like you say, even it it's just two f/o's, it should still apply. The non-halfwing f/o is making way more than what the halfwinger is making. I guess people can always come up with an excuse for being cheap.

I certainly never expected it and always offered to pay, but I think I bought 1 or 2 meals my entire first year at United. The EWR 320 guys were very generous in that regard. It certainly has inspired me to do the same when I'm in that position. Either way, welcome to all the new guys! I wish you all a great career here.

My first trip off IOE a couple years ago the 60+ yr old CA asked for separate checks on our first cheap dinner. I did not expect to be treated but found it kind of funny.

That said, even approaching 3rd year pay I have a lot of CAs who insist on buying at least one meal.

I've got an ALPA battle star actually.

Not sure if I'll wear it though. Free beer sounds nice...

Please wear the half wing.

You are new to our culture, but a slick tie is highly offensive to a Legacy UAL guy (and more recently Legacy CAL guys too!)

Yes,but would I offend anyone by wearing my ALPA pin w/battle star instead of the half-wing?

And possibly short myself a free beer? Lol...

Half wing on your tie. Battle star on your jacket lapel. They'll cover that on the on the second afternoon in indoc.

Shrek are you a Capt now? Just curious.

No and won't be for awhile - just picking up the slack for the other cPTs that won't.
