This question:

16. Have you:
A) Ever been convicted or is there now pending against you a misdemeanor or felony (civil or military charge);
B) Received deferred adjudication (even if your case was later dismissed);
C) Been part of any sort of diversion program in lieu of a conviction (even if your case was later dismissed);
OR
D) -PAID A FINE-/ performed community service/ served any jail time?

So, if you've had a speeding or parking ticket, you're lumped in with the felons? Just want to make sure before the computer puts me in with the rapists.

Yeah - I made the mistake a couple years ago answering this yes cause of speeding fines...crickets for 2 years. Fixed it and re-submitted. I-view call in 1.5 mos.

I would be careful about omitting traffic tickets. If you paid the fine rather than going to trial, you now have a misdemeanor criminal conviction on your record. Adjudicating the charge against you by paying a fine is the same as being found guilty. If they decide to hire you, then find that you didn't disclose a conviction, I think that would be very bad.

I'm pretty sure a traffic ticket ( for speeding anyway) is not considered a misdemeanor..even if you just paid the fine rather than fighting it. A speeding ticket is considered an "infraction".

Am I just reading into the question too much? It says OR PAID FINE. Isn't that sort of a catch all for any violation in which you paid a fine, infraction or otherwise?

A speeding ticket is a civil infraction. It is not a misdemeanor.

It may be different for some states, but in GA the law is clear. Most traffic offenses are considered misdemeanors.

O.C.G.A. 40-6-1 covers the uniformed traffic code. All moving/motor vehicle violations are covered in 40-6.
"Observance of chapter required; punishment for violations generally; maximum fines for certain offenses.
(a) It is unlawful and, unless otherwise declared in this chapter with respect to particular offenses, it is a misdemeanor for any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform and act required in this chapter."

The best advice is to disclose it. I just finished my interview and I had two speeding tickets listed in that section. They never even mentioned it. My coach at Emerald Coast also said that a couple traffic tickets are no big deal.

I'm former law enforcement. Speeding is a criminal infraction in GA. Where do you live? Are you sure?

This questions instead should read "Do you have some humility"

Read the question carefully. It clearly states "Have you ever paid a fine"

If you've paid a speeding ticket fine, and check no on this question, be prepared for any questioning that comes your way.

The interviewers could care less that you've paid a speeding ticket fine 15 years ago, but by being honest you paid that speeding ticket fine and checked yes, you've now shown you're hiding nothing and humility is on your side.

Ok. So what I gather so far is; if you've paid a fine in your life, BUT it wasn't related to a felony or misdemeanor, then select NO for that question.
