Default Available Oct 1st. Got the Hogan yesterday.

Three weeks ago I moved my airlineapps.com available date to Oct 1, 2015. I really am unavailable until that date. Scheduling an interview in the next month or two would be challenging but I could probably make it work. After several years of constant attention to airlineapps trying HARD to get the call I was pretty sure I wouldn't get a call by setting my availability 5 months out.

Well, the Hogan test instructions came yesterday. From what I'm seeing here I should expect an interview offer by the end of next week with a choice of interviews in June and then a class date in August. I'm completely unavailable in June so lets say I can get a July interview. I'd then expect a class date in September, still too early.

My question for y'all is, how long can I delay this process without losing the hiring opportunity? How flexible is interview scheduling? Can I push it to July or August considering I'm not available for class until October? If I do get a job offer, how likely is it that I can push it to a later date? How's the HR culture over there? Some places hang up the phone (or never return emails) if you don't accept the dates offered. I'm just putting my thumb to the wind before I take any action. Has anyone else had a situation like this?

Not sure exactly about the ability to push the interview back too much but I do know you can get a CJO and wait several months for a class. My availability date is beginning of Jun and I got the Hogan link the first week of Jan and set up a mid-Feb interview. I interviewed and got a CJO the next week. The folks that interviewed around the same time started class in mid-Apr and I got my email for the Jun 2nd class about a month out. I recommend taking the earliest interview you can.

Yep definitely interview then you will be able to get a class as soon as you are available. Just make sure the date you put on the application is the date you can start class, they start every Tuesday.

A friend recently got hired, his CJO letter from BK said it was good for 12 months from the CJO date on the top of the letter.

Don't try to game it. Just be up front with everything. I have several friends who interviewed and were given CJOs for classes 3-4 months out. No problems whatsoever. If you airlineapps availability is Oct, and you need to stick to that, it should be no problem. Congrats on the call.

Concur. I just got my letter and it says it is good for 12 months. Do what you have to do to make the interview and be honest with them about your availability. They will work with you.

This.

If you make it as far as the interview they WANT to hire you. Be upfront on the application and it won't be an issue.

That said, waiting several months is also several hundred seniority numbers in this hiring wave. Unless you have a MIL commitment or a substantial family situaution try to move mountains and earth to get into the earliest class possible.

This is starting to sound eerily similar to 2000/2001!!!!

I had a good friend interviewed and CJO in hand in JAN 2001 for an availability of Jan 2002 while he was still in the Navy.

UAL went from 1 yr CJO's to Furlough in no time flat! Hope they aren't getting too far ahead of themselves again.

Are you kidding???? (What could have possibly happened in 2001 that flipped the switch?)

And yes, major airlines in the U.S. have a 85 year history of hiring-until-furloughing and then furloughing too many. The cycle will happen again. One more good reason to grab a seniority number when able.

Although everyone likes to point out 9/11 as the "cause" of furloughs, the truth is that furloughs were coming, the industry was off the tracks with excess capacity everywhere.

True, all you can do is get hired when they hire, but offering CJO's a year out just strikes a bit silly to me, but hey, ce l'est vie!

Just have a backup plan, because experience shows the rosier the predictions, the harder the fall.

Here's to hoping they offer and fulfill CJO's two years out!!!
