DCA 777FO Reserve Life??
Looking to get any info on what life is like for 777 FO on Reserve in DCA. I'd be junior. Drive in with 2:30 drive to IAD.
My questions are:
How many Shortfalls are you getting?
How often used per month?
Are you picking up open time?
And any other information you think would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

where do you live and can you sit short call from home? I heard short call and FSB is normal ops because reserves are primarily covering late flights/FAR117 issues… so you need to be able to sit short call from home and be able to legitimately make it in. I'm same as you and looking at DCA but only live 15 minutes from lot… so i'm giving it a go. I also heard very hard to make above guarantee (possibly a long callout and get a 7 day trip and a 3/4 day trip monthly) other than volunteering for the short call and getting the extra 3 hours pay (after 5 SCs). Good luck.

I've looked at this, as well. If you are a line holder on 76T or 756...you might be looking at a pay cut to sit reserve on the Triple. If you are not concerned about the pay, then a junior reserve guy is a good deal if you live locally.
The whole 76T vs 756 thing is a quandary right now. I'm not sure how this is going to shake out. If you are on the 76T, I'm not sure if guys will hang on till the end to try to get a bump. The process of the BAT really muddies the water.

I did the math and the break-even point is 90ish hours on the 76T/76 to make the equivalent of 777 pay sitting reserve with 5 short calls (76 hours of pay).
I think if you are chasing cash (i'm not) then stay on the 76T/756 as a line holder you have the ability to work more hours (i.e., pick up open time, SRM, etc. and get 90+ hour pay) than sitting reserve on the 777. I'm more into equal pay with less work...

I figure there will be a couple more big bids in the fall and spring... I might just hang back and see how it rolls and wait for next round... As well as possibly losing my vacation in the process. Bottom line, I Don't think this will be the last chance for 777 DCA in the next 6 months... Good to finally see some opportunity to move around...
