Bases are usually given day 1. SFO as of late.

Yeah, nothing yet. One of the previous classes got a hint a few days early. Not sure how they pulled that off. I'm not going to be that guy that emails Doris to get the info. Patiently waiting...

Not as many SFO spots as I am hoping. Hopefully next week has some more! Congrats to all, and hopefully folks are getting what they want.

I wouldn't worry to much about not getting a SFO drop. The evidence is more probable than not that you will generally be able to hold SFO before you hit the line:D.

SFO is challenging EWR to be the most junior base in the company.

Thank you for the reassurance!

SFO

My class all got SFO(18aug) and we are all East coasters so we are all bidding out on the next vacancy 737 and 320. There should be no problem getting SFO.

Great news! I'll be looking for SFO. How often are vacancy bids done?

There is one available right now. It closes on Monday the 21st at Noon Central time.

Bid what you want. Want what you bid. Careful what you bid for, as you just might get it!

Vacancy bids have generally been coming out about once per month, or slightly less frequently, so if you don't get a lateral on this bid, you will likely have another opportunity before you leave training. I don't think you will have any issue getting to SFO, the issue you are going to have is deciding how quickly you want to upgrade to a Widebody, as those bids will be coming soon there as well.

You don't mean out of training do you? If someone commuting from SEA wanted to avoid hotels the night prior and do 1 leg to major cities or some int'l, what's the optimum choice? I get that may be a desire of most if not all and take a few years.

Edit: let me be more specific actually, first goal would be to avoid hotels at all cost so a red eye to start would perhaps be desirable. After that, destinations would be great. I'm really not a fan of 3 flights in a day and would prefer to avoid that. So I think the question is, how does 756 flying compare to 73, and would you be stuck on reserve in a 756 for a long time?

worstpilotever 09-16-2015 01:34 PM

I don't think you will see anything other than the guppy or Fifi for newhires for awhile. The guppy seems to have a lot of redeyes to start trips, but they also get done late on the last day. More than likely as a new hire you will be having to overnite at least on one end of the trip, and if you are really lucky get to do it on both ends.

Abovo 09-16-2015 01:35 PM

I would ask your instructors how soon you'll have access to CCS because you need to get those vacancy bids in soon before they close. At least you'd be able to put your name in the hat sooner than waiting for the next vacancy bid. If you have it already just put the bid in now.

T333 09-17-2015 08:04 AM

definitely get your bids in...you are on the property and have the contractual right to bid in this vacancy

MasterOfPuppets 09-17-2015 08:28 AM

The drop for this class doesn't really matter as all of you are eligible to bid on the current vacancy. Y'all should be able to get what you want!

Next weeks class will miss the bid by a day....

Bonepilot469 09-17-2015 09:11 AM

Is there any hope for anything other than SFO/LAX or EWR/DCA for a new hire? I know DEN is senior, but come on! I love living in flyover country!

Based on the current snapshots it doesn't look good. HOwever, keep in mind that they can "backfill" assignments that others bid out of, so there is always a chance. So, bid what you want and keep your fingers crossed.
