Study for class
Is there a location one could look to study up on the material related to the first few weeks of class? I understand there is no point in studying for a specific aircraft...I am more interested to find info relating to the rest of the information we will be presented with. Standing by for ridicule.

The Ops Manual and the WOM will be covered in class. You will be exposed to company policy, lots of HR mumbo jumbo, and the standard part 121 run through.
We can't post the Ops manual because of some of the sensitive security info in there. but, the class is good enough to give you working knowledge of the relevant parts. The indoc class is meant to cover the stuff you need to know, and to teach you how to find the answers for the other stuff. No stress. |
There is nothing you need to study before class you have 2 weeks of FOM mind numbing legal mumbo jumbo crammed down your throat while your eyes are glossed over and your drooling.
You will learn the most important parts of the FOM in class, the rest you will learn on-line as questions arise and you see the operation in action. As far as rest its 117 unless the contract is more restrictive. |

Aside from that, try to stay awake.
Welcome! |
FYI:
I didn't learn this until Re-Indoc was almost over. (I was a mil-leave returnee). You get one free giganto Starbucks a day from the Doubletree. On your way out each morning, stop by the hotel restaurant, tell them what size you want, you fill it yourself, and put your name and file number on the clipboard. I was buying it in the TK cafeteria. OK, but not strong enough for me. |
I appreciate everyone humoring me. I will take the coffee discussion to heart! Looking forward to joining the team.
One other question...when I interviewed they said expect a December class. When I received the call...I was told expect a January class. Any thoughts on the possibility of the class moving back to December...or is the estimation pretty accurate? |
Get your liver in shape! I haven't drank like that since college. I couldn't hang!
|
That water bottle they give you at checkin....use it a lot and and keep it filled!
Free coffee from doubletree is awesome! They walk you through everything, first couple weeks is relaxed, then buckle down after that for your aircraft specific and follow the training plan. |
Definitely brush up on your drinking skills.

Best job on the planet. Wish I could still do it.
Study hard and enjoy it while it's good. It can be up and down and goes by fast regardless. |

As a military guy, I want very little time from my last day of active duty (start of terminal leave), and getting on property. While I know beggars can't be choosers, I'd be interested in seeing what class start date looks like compared to what you listed your availability date. Thanks in advance. |

If I may ask, what did you have down on your availability compared to your class date?

Major Indoc and Training (particularly in Houston) is not hard. It's gotten better but they're doing what they can with a facility never intended for that many people. When it all goes to TK things will get easier. Less crowded and hectic. Denver is a far more relaxing place to train. Room to breathe and halls are wide enough to walk down. I won't miss Houston and as a training base it just doesn't have much to offer except watching shootings on the news at Hoot County Saloon.
For now though just relax. Cooperate and graduate. They'll teach you in theory and you'll learn most of it on the line much to the chagrin of your captain. |
It looks like things are moving quicker than expected, also is there a copy of the contract anywhere on this outer web thing?

For many. For thousands more, not so much. Lousy timing, lousy luck, lousy management etc and it's just a job.

It's a great gig bro. Don't let the old crabapple naysayers with the black cloud over their nugget constantly being negative get you down. Enjoy. It's fun.
Normally the ones that are chronically unhappy are either (1) unhappy with life in general, (2) don't drink enough, or (3) commute to work. If you can do less of number 1 and 3 and try to do more of 2 you'll be fine. |
